2.53 Northwood OC

Thread Starter
2.94 at 49c load and 31c idle on stock hsf.

This is my first oc attempt, I hope it is a good oc. Stable in prime95 for 18 hours. Not very familiar what this cpu type is capable of. Would it be able to be pushed more. I had problems with it above 3.0 at 1.6 vcore and 3-3-3-8 timmings.

Nice oc man, but that will hit 3.4 easy on good cooling.

No, 1.6v is not too high for a Northwood, as long as it stays under 1.7v it is fine. I run mine at 1.58v and would go higher, but my mobo limits me. Nice overclock by the way. Push further! Just keep the temps under 55C for northwoods.
actually, 1.7 is the max on northwoods, and 1.54 is th max on Prescotts

and thats a c1 stepping, which OCs pretty good
you will probably hit at least 3, on stock, higher with your good airflow

is your ram on a divider? i would run it at 1:1 and tighten timings some, and see how it works, if not, try 3:4 or 4:5

also what cooling do you have on your CPU? stock

Ram divider is currently 4:5. I have stock cooling right now but have some
AS5 and xp-120 on order with a panaflo fan.

So, if it change the divider to 1:1 and have the ram run at a lower freq and tighten the timings that might help some?

id try it, works ok with my mobo, i can run 2-2-2-5 instead of 2-2-2-6, from pc3200 to pc2700
but your going from pc4000 to 3200, and then to 2700
so you will get better timings

but my i OC and my bad MOBO needs tweaking, and i use 2.5-2-2-5

Since you have DDR400 RAM, I would set divider at 3:4 (FSB:RAM). The FSB runs at 155, which means the RAM frequency will run at 206mhz, which is just slightly higher than 200mhz (DDR400). And run the RAM at the recommended timings.
