Any reason to get HD 6870 over HD 5870 @ same price with no CF intentions on the future.

6870: Better tessellation, lower power consumption, smaller card, lower performance, less OC headroom.

Under your conditions, choose the HD 5870.

Former 5870 and current 6870 owner here.

No. 5870 outperforms 6870 in tesellation and everything else you can think of. Its core is clocked at 850Mhz whereas 6870's core is 900. So 6870 is limited in terms of O/C. You can probably squeeze 150Mhz from 5870 but only 100Mhz from 6870 (if you want to stay in safe voltage range).

crossfiring the 6870s is a whole another story though. get the 5870 if you don't plan crossfiring.

Tessellation being as great as it is it just there for no use. GTX 470 i have now its a monster @ Tessellation but there is no use at all. Looks like i will get the HD 5870 and if HD 6950 is very good then i will just have to sell the HD 5870 again.

Well if you're thinking of a 6950 what's the problem with holding out for 3 weeks? If you bought an HD 5870 now it wouldn't have much resale value once the 6950 drops. I think your 470 is good for 17 days.
