What's holding me back?

Alright, here is the deal. I can overclock my cpu to 2.47 and it will run prime for 7+ hrs. this is w/ a voltage of around 1.5125. If i run it at 2.5 than prime will only run for around 20min, adding voltage does not seem to help. I raised the vcore a notch and prime only ran for 18min. I also tried it w/ 2.5-3-3-7 and it made no difference. Anyone have any ideas to get stable at 2.5?

CPU multi: 10
HTT multi: 4
FSB: 250
Ram: 2.5-3-3-6

put your RAM on the lowest divider, this will eliminate your RAM as a OC factor...Also what type of PSU do you have this is very important in OCing CPU

What were your temps when you ran prime for 7 hours?

not bad at all after running prime overnight last night cpu temp was 39

all right, i'm gonna start priming w/ these settings, i couldn't get it to boot w/ the lowest memory divider so i had to go w/ 266

Well that def is a good power supply, very stable 12V rails, but like RyGuy stated temps r super important esp load temps

I would try loosening the timings on the RAM, if that doesn't do anything I would look at the cooling on your northbridge and the mosfets that are near your CPU.

was 39 your load temp them...I hate when people kept telling me I was coming to my CPU limit...but all CPUs OC differently even the same models and steppings, just consider the possibility but dont give up

Yes, 39 was the load temp.

So, if i get a good run on this prime right now than it is probably the memory? what timings would you reccomend, 2.5-3-3-7, 3-3-3-7, or even higher? will the ability to overclock higher makeup for the slower timings? Also, when you overclock does that affect the neccesary timings, I mean if you run at say 2.5-3-3-6 stock, could you theoretically run at 2.5-3-3-6 overclocked if you could set the divider so the memory speed matched the stock memory speed? sorry for all the questions, but i thought i was getting the hang of this and now this memory thing is driving me nuts.

Try 3-3-3-8 just so you know if it still has a problem it is definitely not the memory. My RAM is at stock speeds with a divider and it runs at 2.5-3-3-7 and only runs with 3-3-3-8 at stock without a divider. I have ValueRam though so it's all screwy anyways
