DX58SO + 4GB RAM modules?

My intel specs says: "16 GB maximum total system memory (with 2 Gb memory technology)."

"Supported Memory Configurations
1024 MB SS1 1 Gbit 128 M x 8 / empty 8
2048 MB DS2 1 Gbit 128 M x 8 / 128 M x 8 16"

2GB technology? Does this mean I can only use 2GB RAM modules and not 4GB modules? I doubt it, cuz then it'd be impossible to reach the max 16gigs, but what does the 2GB limit mean?

The Smackover board will work with either 3 or 4 sticks of RAM but if you opt to use all 4 slots then it will run in Dual Channel (instead of Tripple Channel).

The fourth slot (it should be the black one on the board) shares bandwidth with one of the other DIMMs. It's just a bad design on Intel part.

So to answer your question, yes, you can put up to 16GB memory (4 x 4GB) but it will only run in Dual Channel.

Wait, the 4th slot can run it in dual channel as well? I thought it could only run RAM in single channel mode...

If all 4 slots can run dual-channel, that's awesome! I'd rather have 4 slots of dual channel as opposed to 3 slots of triple channel.
