GA-K8N-SLi

Thread Starter
Okay, so a couple of weeks ago I went out and bought a whole new system, with the intent of overclocking it a bit. I've got a Gigabyte motherboard (the K8N-SLi) with an Opteron 146. However, when it comes to overclocking, things get a little... weird.

Whenever I do anything in the bios to overclock it, it usually ignores all the changes upon reboot, giving me a message of "Skip over CPU Frequency!" - and then everything in windows I can run tells me the thing's running at 1.94GHz instead of the stock 2GHz. On the occaision when I change the settings and it *does* manage to overclock itself properly, I can only really get small increases (maybe 2.1GHz)... but then when I reboot, the thing goes back to ignoring all the changes and drops back down to the 1.94GHz.

I'm using the latest bios available for it, F8, as the bios it came with wouldn't recognise the CPU properly. So, anyone got any idea why it gives up when it comes to overclocking?

Hmm... I was going to say updated BIOS but you have done that... as far as 1.94ghz I dont think thats a problem necessarily, since mine is never completely accurate either (they seem to be off by a few mhz now and then).

What settings are you changing when you do get a sucessful overclock? How are your memory timings?

I know gigabyte boards arent the best for overclocking (maybe they are better now), I have one too, it took some work (updates, loose mem timings) to get a minimal stable overclock.

You might have the 'reset configuration data' enabled in the bios, this will reset any thing thats not right

For the times when it successfully overclocked, I was using:
HT Ratio 4x
FSB 210
K8 CPU Ratio 10x
CPU/DDR Ratio 2:1.83

As for the memory timings, I left them on auto as I didn't want to muck them up.

And I didn't know there was a "reset configuration data" option at all, and I can't find any mention of anything like it in the manual.
