My First Build!! Pointers/advice greatly appreciated!! :) - Page 2

From what I have read lately the gtx470 edges out the 6870 just slightly in benchmarks. Not sure why you would NEED two but couldnt hurt.

Stay with the MSI Twin Frozr coolers though.
Then its preference if you ask me, Nvidia, or AMD your choice.

What are your reasons for the 2x470's? I figured with the dual fans and 19 degrees cooler than stock temps I can OC the 6870. I'm only getting one card for now and they're relatively the same price..
The reason is the 6870 will be the biggest "Bottleneck" in your system. In other words, you wont be using the full potential of your i7.

As said above, change that HDD. It's for laptops, hence it's slower (5,400 rpm). Get a Western Digital Black or a Spinpoint F3 (Both 7,300 rpm).

Yeah I wanted to go ATI.. My first computer running 95 had an ATI card. It never let me down so I've always stuck with them, so I guess its just personal preference for me. I also heard somewhere that the 6000 series x-fires better than the sli currently... but I dont have any benches to support that claim..

I know. I was just thinking of getting two cards later on. I don't have the money to spend on two right at this moment, so one will have to do.

Is the money you save by dropping down to 4GB of ram enough to buy a second 6870?

No it wouldn't be. One kit is only $80, so no it wouldn't be enough..

I have heard from a lot of 870 owners who wish they had bought a 750 instead.
The 750 is a better overclocker with a lot less heat they say.Unless you can actually use the hyper thread.
