dual & one-sided

Thread Starter
hi there...!

can anyone tell me difference between one and dual sided memory?

ive seen that dual have better timings, is there anything else?

i have problem, i have one dual and one one-sided memory, both kingmax 512 ddr @ 400 mhz, whit dual sided, my fsb can go till 300, and with both dual and one sided on the board, cant go over 240....

why is that?

seem to me ill have to change both to dual...

I'm probably totally wrong, but are the chips on both sides for dual sided? It would make sense because it spreads the loads across more chips.

I think that it is cheaper to make them with chips of both sides of the memory.

haha i've never heard of that before in my life....
i can't see any difference... the speed + size is in the individual chip.
anyways.
you don't by any chance mean dual channel and single channel do you?

nono, i have sock. 754, thats single channel...

right Jester, one-sided memory have chips only on one side, left side, and dual-sided have on both, so i guess you are right about that it spreads loads on both sides, so it have better timings than one-sided...

Single sided sticks are very rare and often don't perform as well as double sided sticks. Chances are that the single sided stick is only rated for 166Mhz and the double sided stick is rated for 200Mhz. Both sticks can only go as fast as the slowest installed. It might be a good idea to replace the single sided stick with something better.

I have single sided 512 sticks running at 225mhz 2.5-3-2-5. They're only rated for 200 3-3-3-6. They were pretty cheap too. Single slided just means they used larger chips. It doesn't make any difference.
