FX-60 will own a 180. Period. And one thing to remember is the Opteron's have a more relaxed memory controller, which is where they get there stability. So the A64's and X2's will perform better clock for clock than the Opteron's. I would not waste any money on an Opteron. If you have the money get the FX series. If you don't want to spend that much then go for an X2.

OCZ Platinum Revision 2:

G.Skill BH-5:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231013

Both will reach high speeds with low latencies. Since your other thread implied this will not be a gaming rig, 1GB of low-latency high-speed RAM should be fine.

I have G.Skill DDR600, its great but doesnt seem to OC that well, also dont fall into the trap of thinking that a higher CPU speed=higher OC, for example the 3800X2 OCs about the same as the 4400 even though the 4400 has a 200MHz advantage...For dual core FX60 will get a good OC, single core FX57 will get a good OC

[QUOTE=fade2green514]yea make sure you buy a 939 socket cpu...
if not then you better have a server mobo which will put you down $300 at least lol (not worth it)
yea, its 1000x2...[/QUOTE
Already spent more than that for the Venus....that's what this whole thread's about. 939 is where it's at. Looking for the most obscene oc I can get.

Get an FX-60. It's the best. Period. Also, G.Skill HZs (the DDR500 sticks) will overclock like crazy. I've seen people get up to 280MHz out of them. More would probably be possible with higher voltages.
