Try out a good free antivirus like Avast! or AVG. Avast has always been my personal favorite, and it's saved my ass more than once.

Download these Anti-Virus/Anti-spyware programs first.

Spybot search and destroy: http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/
Ad-aware: http://www.lavasoft.de/software/adaware/
MicrosoftDefender:http://www.microsoft.com/athome/secu...e/default.mspx
AVG ANTI-VIRUS: http://free.grisoft.com/doc/2/lng/us/tpl/v5
Hijack: http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/downloads.html

This site has some very handy Bug removers on it : http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/downloads.html

After you have these go into ''Safe mode'' by tapping F8 just before the windows XP loading bar comes up then select ''Safe mode''. Once in there Disable ''System restore'' totally as it may have done system restore with the Virus on it. Then run the above applications on Full scans just to be sure.

BTW... cleaning a friends PC I found hidden folders with HiJack This. HJT as it's known is best used for discovery only and not to be set to do repairs. Once the massive volume of self multiplying files were removed I was sucessful in cleaning up the system with Ad-Aware, SBS&D and Norton Anti Virus. There were over 18,000 bad files!
