Acer Laptops

Thread Starter
This summer I will be interning at a bank but unfortunatly it is seculded onan island and I dont want to drag my tower over there so this is the step I need to buy a laptop. First a couple of questions does anyone know if the Acer brand laptops are any good? And second would it ba a mistake to buy it with a x700 over the x1400 around the same price but only 4 piplines or the x1600 much higher moble GPU. As I want to play CSS but I dont want to spend too much more the $1400 and there are a decent amount of acer products with the x700 under that price.

Acer is a very reliable brand, and if you're a gamer an X1600 mobility is a must IMO, the X700 will run any source game fine so if CSS is all you play then the x700 is alright.

I would argue against that, the customer support is ****e. It takes about an hour to get through to a person in support, and then they have no clue what they are on about.

My brother has an Acer laptop although the power port broke, the pin got pushed in. They claimed it had fallen out, which it hadn't they blatently hadn't bothered to take the laptop apart to assess the problem. Then they claimed they would have to replace the whole board rather than just the plug.

Even though the laptop was still under warranty they refused to fix without my brother incurring costs for repair £350 or around $650. So, he refused to pay and complained although none of the staff actually read the letters he sent instead they decided to respond to a question they had invented.

I took the laptop apart for him and soldered a new power pin to the board, this cost £2.50 and took all of half an hour including taking the laptop apart and putting back together.

So I would never recommend them as in my case there support was atrocious.
