post #11 of 24
A P4 2.4ghz CPU will most likely reach 3ghz on air no problem.

There are Core Steppings/Revisions and the S-SPec.

Core stepping simply refers to revisions in die design made by Intel. The S-SPec is merely a model number assigned to a particular CPUID clocked at a certain speed, with any other distinguishing features, such as whether or not the CPU is a boxed CPU and whether it runs at a higher voltage than other CPUs, etc.

Such as 2.4B with C(1) revision/stepping and S-Code (S-SPec) of SL6D7 vs a 2.4C with D(1) revision and S-Code of SL6Z3

So I've changed my mobo to Abit IC7-G and i started overclocking...

I did reached 3,03Ghz but when testing with OCCT it crushed immediately!
I don't know what is the problem...I use a devider for my ram 5:4 and they run at 131Mhz, I've PC2700. At this speed (cpu-z) the system is not 100% stable.
but i still want to increase more the FSB...
What might be the problem? My PSU(it's no brand..and 300w?

@boom123

its a 2.4Ghz cpu correct? I see your voltage is already at 1.712 an thats a little high for a northwood. I think your cpu has simply reached its limit. Almost 3Ghz, pretty good OC.

What is your idle temp?
post #17 of 24
yes lower the voltage.. wow.. your ready for some elctrostatic migration try to keep it 155 or less.. 1.6 if ya really really have too.. 1.7 no unless you plan on upgrading really really soon.. your ram is slow.. pc2700.. it might not be able to handle it.. even with the devider.. instead of of bumping the cpu voltage.. try bumping the vdimm up a little bit.. voltage to your ram.. that may help steady her out.. dont try and push farther then ya have just try to get stable

1.7 on a Northwood is not going to kill it. I run mine at 1.76-1.78 on water and they perform just fine. Have been for quite some time now. You RAM is killing you man. Bump up the vDIMM and hope for the best. Get some DDR400 though when you get a chance. Northwoods are not Prescotts and can handle a little more voltage. As long as your temps are good, don't worry about 1.7. I'm not saying these guys don't know what they are talking about, but I think they are basing their statements on the Prescott core and not the Northy. You should be able to break 3GHz at 1:1 with DDR400 memory. The machine I have at 3.18 has a 2x512 set of Ballistix in it running at 1:1 stable in prime and OCCT all day long.

right.. im making my statment on general rulez.. not really the northy.. but i do agree with the vdimm i think that may help out a lot

Yeah..I'm getting some DDR400 soon. I've lower the voltage to 1.625 now my FSB (160x18=2.880) and my idle temp it's around 38 celcium before it was around 40...not much difference...]
For cooling the cpu i've got Thermaltake Spark+ (http://www.thermaltake.com/2005/coolers/spark/a1715.htm) and I've put Arctic silver 5 before...isn't it too high?
