Yup, I actually just waited for the poly to dry and picked out most of the bigger bits with a sharp knife. I then took some steel wool to smooth out the bumps and applied another layer of poly!

Thanks for the quick-reply! I was planning on going all Minwax for pre-stain and stain. On the can it didn't say anything about applying a second coat. How long did you wait before the second coat?
I would love to use a gel-stain, but it is quite a bit more expensive, and I would have to buy 6-pints or 4-quarts at my local ACE (discounts are awesome!), so I'm sticking with the liquid oil-based which they carry in stock.
Thanks again for all the help and I wish you luck on the rest of your desk!
Anytime - the Minwax Oil stain is very nice and does a much better job of "enhancing" the wood, as opposed to "changing" the wood, like the gel-stain I'm currently using. I waited a day between doing the first and second coats of stain. Thanks for the comments!

Yeaah, that IS a real bummer! Time to proxy it up!

To OP... I didn't even realize there was going to be a glass panel in this desk. I had to open the first post and check. That is awesome!
Heh, glad you're enjoying!

You, sir, are unbelievable. I actually got hungry (not because of the biscuit/gravy nonsense a few pages back), but because of your wood...
Your delicious wood...
So jealous, but, keep it up!!
EDIT: I forgot to ask...but did you create this account for the sole purpose of documenting this monstrosity? If you did, well played. If not, great name.
I'm a monster now eh... with delicious... wood? Hehehe, good stuff, I'm glad you're... enjoying it! And yes, I did create this account just for this project. I've been a browser for a long time, but never really had a reason to post - until now!

Ha, exactly what I was thinking...

Subbed. I can't wait to see the final product
Thanks for the kind words Hyoketsu! Good luck with your build - remember - planning right the first time pays off!

Continue with the great build, I'm loving the stain you picked out! Can't wait to see the finished product.
Thanks stu, glad to have you along for the ride!
With the drawers and drawer faces all finished and ready for installation, it was time to turn to finishing up the two cabinets.
First up, finishing the piece that goes on the front of the left-hand cabinet.
And, well, not a lot of writing today, as the rest of it should look pretty straightforward. I had to cut up a bunch of trim pieces, and somehow arrange the clamps to hold them in the right place. A few of the arrangements required some creative thinking, but in the end, I got the whole cabinet trimmed up over the course of a few days.
Enjoy! We're getting close to the final assembly, yay!
