DDR dual channel

Thread Starter
I'm getting Abit IC7-G and it supports dual channel up to pc3200(400Mhz).
I'm looking forward to overclock it as much as it goes with P4 B 2,4Ghz(stepping C).Now I have Pc2700 and I'm definetly getting dual ddr should i get the PC3200 or faster ones?

Let's say...I have a p4 2,4ghz with a mutl:18, and i want to reach it up to 3,6ghz. Then my FSB will be 200Mhz(200x18=3,6GHz). For Ram : 200Mhz x 2=400Mhz, thus if I buy PC3200(400Mhz) i can run 1:1 cpu:ram with no problem.
Please correct me if I'm wrong beacuse I'm a bit confused....and explain to me why you multiply x2 to find the ram speed...
thanks in advance.

You're fine with the 2700s, but when you get to the overclocking part, you may need to loosen the timings a little to get them higher than 333mhz.

That last part that you're confused one? You're correct, that's how DDR400/PC3200 would work on a 1:1 with the 2.4B.

Although I'm not sure how well it will go with a 300W PSU and MSI board.

You multiply by 2 because it is Double Data Rate. It sends data on the rising and falling side of the data stream. So it's 400MHz effective speed. Your line of thinking is correct. As long as your temps are good and you apply enough vCore, you can take a crack at that speed.

If you plan on ocing definately get a higher speed ram as the ram will be able to keep tight timings as your overclock goes up with headroom allowance with the higher speed.

Yeah if you intend on some major overclocking i would suggest some good quality DDR400 Dual channel kit

Why do I have to loose my timings why 333MHz? For 3,6Ghz the FSB will be 200Mhz x 2 = 400Mhz and it suits fine...y are u mentioning 333Mhz.

I'll change my mobo to Abit IC7-G and i'll get a better psu.

I changed my mobo! I got an Abit ic7-g
and i overclocked as i show below:

Now my FSB as u can see is 168 and cpu:dram 1:1.
For ram frequency it says 168Mhz. Is the actually frequency 168Mhzx2=336Mhz as we said above? or am i talking bull****?
If I am that means that i can run up to 200Mhz FSB 1:1 with my 333Mhz ram....?!

You don't want to use the highest cpu multiplier available when overclocking. The goal is to find the max cpu OC it can handle and then use a lower multiplier with a raised fsb and memory speed. Below is an example why....
200 mhz X 18 = 3.6 ghz
300 mhz X 12 = 3.6 ghz

The second setup would be faster than the first.

My cpu multiplier is locked! Actually all intel cpus have their multiplier locked.
Thank you for your help but you didn'y answer my question
