Would like to lower temp

Thread Starter
Well I posted before but didn't get too much of a response so I will ask something else. As I said before I have 2 thunderblades 120mm front and back and a dinky 80mm(guessing about 21 cfm). The 80mm is positioned on the side and feeds right over the memory and thus right before the AC freezers intake. The 120mm's are just the standard front back set up.

I was wondering if theres anything I can do to lower the temps in my case even further. I'm out of ideas since there is no more room for fans. My cable management is fairly good I believe as I have my cables running between the drive bays and side panel. So if you guys can toss some ideas my way that would be great. Thanks in advance.

just get some higher cfm fans, but this will mean more noise. you could also try high cfm fans with ducting.

to really get low temps you will have to go for water cooling

Yes I've already gone the higher CFM route on the 120mm's. My case came with some silent fans that ran about 26 cfm. The thunderblades are 78 cfm. Would having a higher CFM side fan help at all? I've read that a side fan hurts more then it helps thats why I left the dinky 21CFM fan there. I figured it couldn't hurt much since it was so weak and it would bring a gentle cool breeze to my cpu intake.

Edit: just for reference I'm running about 43C idle and 47C load...with no OC. I've seen reports of mid to low 30's with idle and below 40 load on air. So I'm just sort of figuring I have something wrong somewhere or have something I could improve.

Did you cut out the metal from the case when you installed the fans.

Get a better heatsink, like a Thermaltake Big Typhoon along with some Artic Silver 5.

No I didn't cut out the metal grills when I put on my fans. I sort of wanted to avoid modding the case, but if it will help considerably I might consider it.

As for the heatsink I'm about 99% sure its seated correctly. I seated it while the mobo was out of the case just so I could more easily eye it and make sure it was.

yeh that sounds ok then, could try some as5 or maybe a high cfm fan directed onto the heatsink from the side of the case

My side panel is on.

As for the AS5 is it really worth it? I hear that the mx-1 that comes with the heatsink is better.

Edit: Thanks for the advice folks but I found the problem. Win2k + dual core= runs hot. I found a fix and my temps are now in line at about 32C idle and 40C load. Now I can move on to OC'ing.
