Maxtor Diamondmax 10 problem! HELP! - Page 2

Hi Matty

1. You do NOT need any driver!! A single HD is plug and play.

2. You need to refer to your MOBO manual, and get all the configurations and wireings right.

3. When, and not a second before, the disk shows up corectly in bios, you are ready to install windows.

You have THREE posible faults to look for.

1. Your disk is defect. Try it in another computer to rule it out, or run a dos based test utility. Maxtor has good one called MAXBLAST, and it runs of a floppy. You can find it at www.maxtor.com

2. Your MOBO/Controler is defect. Test it with another SATA disk, or use the program above mentioned. If that runs fine, and recognices the disk, the controler is most likely OK.

3. You have a configuration problem. Read the manual, and read it again till you understand what it tells you. Then follow it step by step, and I guarantee you it will work.

Happy hunting

ok so i went to the Asus CD, all it is is about setting up RAID and making discs. it started asking some questions like buffers? etc. etc. i hit yes yes, and then it came to a thing and i hit escape. now i get weird errors while XP is loading like is your computer a standard pc with ci486 or something, or your hard drive wasn't specified and stuff like that.

I AM TOTALLY LOST!!!!

Man, this sucks! I guess I'll have to go back and have them assemble it for me I just want a working computer, but I guess that's too much to ask for.

Any other help? I have the drive plugged into SATA1 and at the store, the guys set my jumper on the hdd for SATA1 instead of SATA2 cuz it wouldn't work for nVidia chipsets. so i have my SATA plug from the back to the SATA1 port on the MB.

Really Matty. If you can't or won't follow the steps I outlined for you, I honestly don't think your fingers belong inside a computer.

If I were you, I would eighter find a freind who knows this stuff, or go to the store. I am 99% sure it's just something you have connected or configured wrong. It shoulden't take a pro more than a few minuts to fix.

Just remember this! All learning is hard. Learn from this, and you might soon be a wizz at it.

Good luck

Those are the only things, huh? Well now XP is messed, so I'm going back to the store. I'll keep you guys posted.

By the way, it's not that I can't follow steps, it's that I'm also aggrivated and frustrated to the point of killing someone. So instead of taking it out on my computer, I'm gonna try and cool off and go back to the store because something is buggered and I don't know what it is. The manual provides NO information on the hard drive, and my hard drive didn't even come with a manual let alone CD.

EDIT

It works! I don't know why, probably a connection. Thanks for the help guys, sorry if I flipped out. I was venting, like most of us do.
