Zalman has been around since the late 90’s and has been cranking out coolers that not only perform well, but look good doing it. Zalman has since developed a wide range of products from air cooling, water cooling, fans, cases, power supplies, storage and even monitors. My first experience with Zalman was around 5 years ago with the CNPS9700 LED CPU cooler. It was a strong performer for years for me, and it can still be bought to this day. Today we are looking at the newest incarnation of that cooler design, the CNPS9900 MAX.

Why make something that doesn't perform as well as the top air coolers?

1. Make big square heatsink.
2. Let users add their own fans.
3. Sell for $60-$70.
4. ???
5. Profit!
It's TURBO TIME!

there's already a lot of competition in that area...I think the profit part is harder than you'd imagine at this point. Instead, make something different and appeal to apart of the market that is looking for that. I'm sure they'll do fine.

Only way I would get this, is if it actually turned from blue to red when my cpu was under load, as shown in pictures. No, I did not read the article.

They do, it's called the CNPS10X series.

Tower HSF has hit a ceiling until nanotechnology is implemented. What it comes down to these days is the aesthetics and wow factor of the cooler. 1-3C performance doesn't really matter.

The only reason I wouldn't choose this type of cooler is if the fan stopped working one day I'd have to buy a whole new cooler.

I know it's not the most efficient design, but I've always like the aesthetic appeal of that heatsink
