yes, but when you can buy that CPU for $500 in 2 months.........sure, that is supposedly a ES model with unlocked multi, which is nice, but don't let that blind you to the fact that it's a prototype. These are the chips they make to find out what doesn't work

Although, if I had enough money to where I wouldn't miss $800.....I would probably get it too.

People have gotten Conroe's to work on 975 boards, but no current production board is 100% certified to be compatible with Conroe. Buying now you are gambling.

The -304 Intel Bad Axe is guranteed to work with the Conroe.

That chip is not prototype. Intel has been mass producing Core processors since mid April. Everything about the chip is complete, they are just trying to produce enough to meet depends come June, July, and August.

I am trying to talk my dad into buying it. Pretty small chance, actually, it is more likely that the guy would give it to me.

I forgot about that one, I thought it wasn't due to be out till April (then I realized it was already May.........and that it was released in Feb LOL)

However, it is an Intel board, and reviews of it have not been overally promising as a viable "enthusiast" board. Again, I have found patience is prefered. Afterall, they can't very well release the Conroe to the public with NO boards certified to run it. Why buy the only board available now with concessions, to run a CPU that isn't even available yet when you can wait, and pick from a variety of boards with more features when the CPU is released?

Ah well, I am older, and patience comes easier to me

It was stated that it was likely a ES model. The ES models are NOT mass produced as I understand it (they certainly aren't retail sold) and are generally the first run of the CPU to test it and the manufacturing process.

The Bax Axe has gotten pretty good reviews actually. Although for someone who is going to use extreme cooling, it will not alough for more than like 30% overclock of FSB. That means you can bring it up to about 3.12Ghz.

The ES models tend to be the processors from the center of the waffer, making them the best processors available.

Woodcrest will be released in June, Conroe in July, and Meron in August.

All these CPUs are part of the Core architecture. The Woodcrest is the server processor, the Conroe is the desktop processor, and the Meron is the mobile processor.
