Project: Lian Li PC-75B Mod

I just got this case about a month ago. I needed more room than my old midtower gave me. I also wanted all 120mm fans. It took a while to decide which case to buy. I was thinking of the PC-7077, but couldn't get past the front panel appearance.

I will be adding more pics of my progress. I am nearly done now, but have lots of pics to upload.

I ordered the case through Performance PCs.com I would highly recommend them. I ordered one of their sleeving kits and a new front panel wiring set for the Lian Li V-Series.

In addition to the 120mm fans in the 7077, I liked that it had Firewire and Front Panel Audio in the Front Panel. I figured for $10 I could get the new wiring to work in my case.

I also had them cut the 120mm blow hole and cut a hole in the Side Panel window for another 120mm.

I wanted Case Handles really bad, but didn't want to spend the 35 Bucks for them to install them. I was a little leery of putting them in myself, but thought I'd try it. I found some good handles at my local Menard's for $2 dollars each.

I knew I wanted 120mm fans to help keep the sound down, but the PC-75 only has 80mm fans. I thought there was enough room in the front for a 120, and I have seen the PSU Plate on the 7077 that has a 120mm on it, so I knew I could get it to fit in the back.

I took the PSU Plate off and began cutting. Same for the front. I pulled out both of the stock 80mm fans and the filter and cut a hole in the front. I had some Aluminum sheet stock from work that I cut down to the correct size to make adapter plates.

More later . . .

Sorry, I seem to be doing this out of order. I thought I should also include some pics of my old case to let everyone see some of the work I had done on that one, and see why I felt kind of claustrophobic with it. I just couldn't seem to find any way to route my wiring that looked clean.

I had this painted at work with some custom mixed Charcoal Gray Metallic. I also cut the blowhole and the backside window. A friend of mine has access to a laser etcher, so I took advantage of that and had the rear window etched.

That case is for sale too if anyone is interested. The DVD, Floppy, and Zip drive come with it. They are all paint matched. I also have a keyboard and a 21 inch Dell that are painted the same color. Make me an offer.

You must have 75 Rep to sell stuff here, and it would go in the "For Sale" section anyway.

Sorry about the infraction. I'm still kind of new to this Forum Stuff.

Back to the Handles. I was surprised how weak the outer skin is on the case. I was pretty sure it would buckle if I didn't add some reinforcements prior to putting the handles on. I cut down some of my aluminum sheet to the match the bottom side of my case top. I also opened up a section in the middle for my blowhole fan. I thought about just putting two plates on either side of the fan, but felt that would be a shortcut. I also cut two small plates for just a little bit more strength just under the handles. It was a real pain gettting all the holes to line up. I had to use a small round file to finish it all off. At that point, I was going through three layers of aluminum. In the end, I like how it turned out, and it makes moving the case MUCH easier.
