Suggestion: RAM Switcherooo

Thread Starter
Right now I am running OCZ platinum DDR400 2GB that i bought for $240 in december. Ive tried my best but the ram doesnt want to do what i want it to do. I need something with higer speeds out of the box.

My plan:
  • 1.RMA the ocz stuff back to newegg...get my $240 back (- shipping).
  • Save $40+ in the longrun (- shipping) and have new and better ram

Will this work...it seems to good to be true. I would buy the new ram now and just make sure the stuff i have now gets rma'd.

Comments, suggestions, remarks?

Will you get your money back, or NewEgg Credit (for me the same, because any money back will be spend on NewEgg anyways). I never had to RMA anything, and too lazy to read the fine print.

I have heard so many good things about the G.Skills (really high clocks), that I bought them myself. Have not given them anything to chew on yet, but will do so after upgrading the rest of my stuff (coming this week !)

I'd recommend the G.Skill.

You might be able to put the RMA in now, then buy and wait for the new RAM, and then ship the old stuff back. NewEgg might charge a re-stocking fee also. AGain, no personal experience, just stuff to look into.

if they don't have your ram they will give you your money back, I got the g.skill and I got 230mhz without upping any voltages and its prime stable, I'm not really an overclocker but I've heard many good reviews on it, Although if you want to overclock alot more you should go for the mushkins since they got tighter timmings at default.

But do the Mushkins reach the same kind of clocks as the G.Skills do? Timings are tighter yes, but the G.Skills are proven to OC beyond their spec (which is 250MHz). Have not heard a lot about the Mushkins here.

I would get the G.Skill. I have that same RAM and I can get speeds of 280MHz out of it with no problem. Amazing RAM.
