Need help overclocking

Thread Starter
ok guys maybe you can help me out. I can't seem to get past 3.5Gghz on my P4 3.0ghz 630 N0. I'm able to boot windows at 3.6 but prime95 finds an error after 36-38 mins of testing. Here is my comp specs:

CPU: as above
PSU: 500w +12V@25A
RAM: 2 x 512 PC3200 DDR SDRAM (my current timings are 3-3-3-6)
Vid Card: Radeon 9550 256MB
CPU Cooling: Zalman CNPS7000B-AlCu LED
Mobo: Foxconn 6617MX-S

If I've missed anything just look at my attached pic. Also my current settings are in the pic. If i need to change anything, pls tell me.

Note: I cannot change vcore in BIOS because its not selectable, there is no PCI/AGP Lock, DRAM:FSB Ratios are 1:1, 2:1, 2:4, 3:2, 6:5.

Thanks in advance

Please fill out the system stats in your "User CP" at the top of the page so we don't have to refer back to this post anytime we need your specs.

Thanks!

Ok first thing i'd do is lossen the timings a bit more. Maybe 3-3-3-8 or 3-4-4-10 is where i usually start. Others may disagree with me, but I think it helps eliminating memory as the roadblock.

Correction: I don't believe you want a 3:2... i was thinking backwards. You want the 2:4 i guess.

In addition, i've noticed your using two different sticks of memory. This isn't really optimal for OC'n a Dual Channel rig. May want to consider a new Dual pack of memory or pull the lesser stick out.

If you look at that image of your stats, you'll see that there are two different brands of memory. One has a CAS latency of 2.5 and the other 3. Pull the stick w/ the higher (3) CAS latency. I believe the Nyan stick is the one you want to pull out.

ok...i actually don't have 2:4. i only have 2:1, 3:2, 6:5 and 1:1. but its says on the pic i have 2:4 (weird).
OK, i've tried running prime95 again, unfortunately it found an error after 1 min. I have my timings set on 3-3-3-8 and my DRAM:FSB ratio on 2:1.

Please get me a cpu-z screen of both the main tab and the memory tab. I trust cpu-z over all else.

OK maybe i was right, it may be FSB/RAM after all. Go w/ 3:2 to start.

You're running cpu-z from a directory that is either not on that PC or is zipped. Please just drag all files that are coupled w/ the cpu-z download to your desktop, then run it.

BTW: you can run multiple instances of cpuz

Just to be sure, you have all 4 files on your desktop right? cpuz.exe, cpuz.ini, latency.exe, cpuz-readme.txt right?
