I have not built a system or modded a case in 10 years or so. I have bought the following:
amd phenom 2 x6 3.2 ghz am3
corsiar xm53 8gb ddr3 sdram (4 sticks)
evga geforce 460 superclocked
lian li pc-a05nb case

I have spent a LOT of time looking into different motherboards and I cant settle on one. I had purchased one but it was DOA and I wont buy another msi board ever again.
So my 2 big questions are :
what motherboard would you install and what cpu cooler is going to fit? I was looking at doing a Noctua nh-c14 or nh d-14 or the zalman cnps 11x.
I welcome thoughts on this. I am doing a basic build for mostly internet and some gaming.
My plan is in a couple of years I will turn over the rig to the wife for surfing and I will build another go fast rig for gaming.
One other thing, the top mount fan is on order (t-lm14b-2)
So the fans should be front is out, rear in, top out Does that sound like a good plan? I also wont be using the HDD Bay so it will be gone.

sorry, i don't have a close-up of the holes in front. but it's something i think was unique, as i've never seen it on this case...however, i'm a bit embarrassed by how it turned out.

when drilling the holes, i didn't take into account the plastic trim that secures to the bottom of the front panel, so the largest hole (on the lower right) shows the plastic piece when lit from behind. i used 3 layers of translucent paper i found at a craft store and a white led as a backlight. pretty dumb mistake, but it still looks good i think.

I absolutely nothing about AMD and their resective motherboards. So i can't help you there.

But as far as coolers go this case can fit any air cooler on the market and any single 120mm rad closed/Cosair Hydro series water coolers. The D14 fits with no problem, Same with the C14. Both of which you will have more compatibility issues with your mobo/ram/gpus before you have to worry about the case.

The orientation of the top fan is probably one of the most disputed things about this case. Both have their pros and cons. With top intake you get fresh air straight to gpu/gpus and can possible create positive pressure in the case which will help reduce dust build up. With it as exhaust you remove all the hot air from the top of the case which tends to accumulate ht air and cook high end gpus but can also starve them of air too. It's also more likely to create a negative pressure in the case. This is a doubled edge sword. One side it draws fresh air easier, but it also draws in dust like a vacuum.

Hope this helps clear some things up.

Crystal clear as mud. I guess my major thing is three questions.
1 what board will work best for fitment into the chassis with the memory, viedo card and case and cpu fan?
2 I want to protect my cpu, hard drive and cards with cool air, thats the reason for the questions on what works well. So what cpu cooler will allow me to not only properly cool the cpu but not cause the case to become filled with pockets of hot air? The allignment of the fans and all...
3 how should I allign the fans to do what I need best? I dont build or live to build computers like most of you do. I modded cases a long time ago back before it was cool. I am out of touch with what works best with what else.
Time has become more important to wipe my kids butts and its a struggle to sleep let alone mod cases.
I came into here thinking I found some guys with similar tastes in case design and if anyone would know, you guys would. So please please please! Help me out here huh? have mercy on an old man.

@reddevil
ram seems to be fairly low profile. any of the top air coolers will do (nh-d14/nh-c14/silver arrow). hyper 212+ for price/performance.
as for motherboard, GIGABYTE GA-990XA-UD3 looks good and is fairly cheap for 140.
put a fan on top of the case. hot air pocket solved
