The [Official] Lian Li PC-A05 Club - Page 238

Did some work with my A05 today. Removed the Lian-Li drive cage and installed a Nexus Disktwin. Mounted my HDD/SSD facing backwards so that the cables could be hidden:

With the drive bay covers on:

Also made a cardboard mockup of a panel that I plan to fit in between the PSU and side panel (so that wires can be hidden behind it):

Well I have posted a few times, but I guess it is time to actually apply for membership thumb.gif

I've had this little beauty for over a year now (arrived on my doorstep waaay back in October 2010), but I have only recently had the pleasure of transplanting my rig into it.

So far I have completed just a few modifications-
  • CPU backplate cutout
  • under PSU hole cutout
  • switched out the stock CD bezels for the C-02 stealth drive covers
  • relocated the back -> front power cable to behind the motherboard tray. I also moved it to the other side of the front panel
  • cut out part of the front panel vents to mount the top panel USB/headphone/mic jacks (yet to be mounted), they will feed right in through the old power lead hole.
  • blacked out the indicator LED stalks with electrical tape so less light leaks behind the front panel

Still to do-
  • 2 120mm fan holes with domed grills on the top
  • interior powdercoat
  • re-sleeve power supply with paracord
  • smoked plexi side panel window
  • ikea Buckla handles as case feet (plasti-dipped black)
  • drill the front panel for more vents (possibly)
  • install my Lian Li tool-less PCI units
  • install slim 12x120mm fan in front of the HDD's so I can route the HDD cables out of sight
  • purchase SSD and install on the outside of the 5.25" bays, with a nice little window for viewing
  • get fan controller
  • get CPU heatsinks re-annodized red
  • get another red LED for my power LED

anyway, some pictures

Front I/O cutout (looks a lot wavier than irl, macro makes it stand out)

Thanks!

I'll be starting a build log when I get the time/money to put the blowhole and stuff in thumb.gif

Does anyone know the length of the thumbscrews lian li uses for case panels and PCI brackets? I know they are M3 threading with a .5 thread pitch, im looking to replace them with some black oxide coated allen head bolts. Just wondering wether I should get 4,5 or 6mm.

For anyone wanting to replace any of the stock thumbscrews/screws in the A05- Use the M3 threading .50 thread pitch, 4 or 5mm, 4mm is perfect for optical drives and PCI slots. the 5mm is perfect for replacing the side and top panel screws and the Power supply thumbscrews (I wouldn't do all of them, I needed to replace one of them to fit my Front panel header mod). The black oxide screws that FTW PC sells work great.

Anyway, this thread needs MOAR build pics thumb.gif so here is my work from today (Please excuse the crappy pics, misplaced my camera so all I have is my tablet)-

I want to put some sort of a fine mesh between the panel and the ports, just to stop them looking so bare, but that is another days work smile.gif

Good spot for the headers but I'm not sure if I like the red socket heads.

The theme of the build/mod is going to be the Umbrella Corporation, so there will be lots of red and white going on... I'm hoping it will not look out of place in the end.

Wire management issues=solved

(Removed the GFX card to do the case mods, so I just tucked the PCIE cables into the 3.5" bay for these shots).
