[Solved]1090t on Crosshair Formula II OC MAJOR issue. - Page 4

So here is where it stands, for those of you just tuning in.

X6 1090t on a Crosshair Formula II w/OCZ Gold Z850w PSU:
anything over 3.2GHz @ 1.27v with 5-10mins of Prime95 results in a shut down of the system. Temps are fine.

Also 3.2G with a voltage increase of 1.45v = Shut down.

Two days ago: Same setup with a 965 @ 3.8 and 1.4v was running flawlessly.

I need to know what it most likely is, PSU or Mobo.

Next step: Disconnecting EVERYTHING but the CPU and my C drive to see if it is the PSU.

*UPDATE*
I took out my GTX275 and 3 HDD's as well as 4 fans.

I'm now running Prime95 @4.0GHz 1.45v for 16mins and counting, with no shut downs!!!

AND THEN IT SHUT DOWN AGAIN THIS IS FRUSTRAITING

Ok. Here's a few concerns I have.

If it were the power supply, wouldn't taking off 3 out of 6 HDD's and the GTX275 out of my system have made a big enough difference in less power demand and not have shut down on me? Wouldn't I see something wrong with the +3 +5 +12 voltage readings if it was straining?

I also felt the heat-sink near the power section for the CPU on my mobo and it was not hot.

Maybe someone can make sense out of these readings.

Guys... You are not going to believe this... but I think I finally figured out what it was. Wasn't the mobo, wasn't the CPU, wasn't the PSU...

It was 2 simple bios settings for the SB/NB overheat shut down protection (selectable from 70/80/90c) and it was on 70c now changed to 90c.

LOL

I can't believe it was something so simple...

If I don't report back screaming my head off... All is well.

So far, 4.0G @ 1.47v 48c max load temp..

music to my ears.

Who knew this monster of a mobo would make it this far. It hit retail around April 4 2008 and is now running a 6 core processor at 4GHz... Amazing.

Is the NB/SB.... ok at 70C+? I'm not sure what appropriate temps are for that chipset.

lol glad you found the problem. must've been a looooooong day 'til you fixed it.

I remember asking ASUS a while ago, they said 112-120c max (dont quote me on that)

I'm looking for the message now, that's just off of memory, it was def in the 1xx range.

I'm messaging them again because I can't find it nor can I remember exactly, However why would there even be an option from 70-90c if that is beyond the max safe temp for the chipset? That doesn't make sense.

It was a long damn day, I even drove home to my moms house 30 minutes away and after about 2 hours drove back because it was bugging me so much and was determined to figure it out!

i still don't think hwmonitor showing the real cpu temp.
i will still asus pcprobe II to check it out. NB/SB/CPU core temp on the asus board

Yeah, the NB/SB temp doesn't show up in any of those programs either. I did install PCprobe yesterday. When I step into the bios I get a MB/SB/NB temp display, but in Windows only one temp shows up and I don't know exactly which one it is.

I heard this chip runs cooler than the 965 did, right now I'm getting 20c idle 48c stress load with 22c ambient.

That sounds right with water no?

Wow, NB/SB temps over 70c? My NB (the hotter of the 2) never goes above 45c.

I've never owned a Crosshair II, how are the heat sinks on it? Can you possibly reset the TIM on it?
