When the power supply is turned on, the orange LED starts bright, dims for a moment, then gets bright again. Sometimes it stays dim. When I was able to get the RAM LED on (the one next to the RAM), I could power it on and of the four red LEDs, only the final one would be lit. Since then, however, the LED next to the RAM will not light up anymore.

I tried two other PSUs, albeit they were 20-pin and not 24-pin, but I was told that it would work, given everything else was OK. I don't have a 24-pin board to test my new PSU though.

If the PSU is new then surely it is OK, you would hope anyway could be the board mate, take it all out and install it again, even have no case and see what happens, you can use the onbard switches to turn on and off-reset. could be some earthing issue maybe, its worth a go.

I've had it out of the case the whole time, just PSU, mobo, CPU+HSF, and 1 stick of RAM. I already bought the A8N-SLI Premium anyway and I won't be home from work before the new board is shipped so I'm stuck RMA'ing it anyway

I re-seated the CPU twice, too, didn't affect anything.
