Not sure if this is actually true but I did read it somewhere and would like to see it tested if possible.
Just thinking about getting a 45g uniform Topre going from cherry browns and if that is the case then they might be a little lighter than I want. Since browns have a bump at about 50g, which then drops to 45g at actuation, they are actually a bit heavier than Cherry lets on. If the Topre rumour is true then they will most likely be around 40g. That would be a pretty significant drop in force required compared to the browns.
.

I think Ripster kept track of people's results. I know Topres have been tested.

I had a whole wiki article at Geekhack that got R00TW0RMed.

You have to remember that force curves are a bit better when you start comparing switches that are within 5g of each other.

Check force curves at this archived Wiki link

The RipOmeter numbers may be similar but the Cherry MX will always feel "springy" versus the Topre "rubber domey".

About 60/65g.

Thanks ripster. smile.gif

EDIT: Looks like <5g drop in force. I will get the 45g then for sure. Since topres are a bit more curved and gradual than the cherrys they must feel a bit more heavy because of it. Since the 55g takes more time to get to 55g after already passing 50g (brown) they probably feel heavier than it seems they would feel. Not sure how to explain is better but perhaps you know what I am talking about. Let's see...

Assuming that the force curve is the same for both 55 and 45g topre, then the 55g would be higher on the force curve than a Brown switch's highest point (50g) all the way from 0.25mm to 1mm (0.75mm total bump). This would make it feel quite a bit heavier than a brown switch which only has a tiny bump from 0.5 to 0.75mm (0.25mm total bump) that goes up to 50g at ~0.63mm.

This probably explains why 55g topre switches feel so much more stiff to most people even though they only seem a little bit heavier judging from their weight rating alone.

After a couple of months even the Blue Cherry feels lighter than the Topre WEIGHTED 35/45g Realforce 87U.

The springiness of the Cherry MX alllows you to "float" over the keys and for me at least lets me type faster.

Yes I can definitely see that. The browns feel like a little resistance that soon falls away while the blues feel more like a quick "slap" on the bottom of the key before giving away. Since both of their bumps are so small compared to topre they would feel lighter overall compared to a 45g topre even though their bumps are a bit higher than the 45g topre.

While I do like blues, I just like browns a bit more. The less pronounced bump is pleasant. Still looking to own a red board for a bit to give it another go. That will be for another time though.

Green Cherry MX like on the Ducky. NORMALLY a spacebar switch.

80g peak force before activation.
