The reason I say that is because its a nonbrand name of ram and theres a hand full of people who have complained about it on the reviews (granted theres hundreds who like it).

I dunno, I just feel skeptical :/ especially with it being so cheap for 2gig

I'm sort of thinking with swkiller is.

I found this RAM for the same price as the G.SKILL DDR500:

CORSAIR XMS 2GB DDR 400 dual channel memory kit
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145486

Would the decrease in speed be a better trade off for the trusted Cosair name?

For $30 more you could get a Opteron 165. It has 1mb L2 cache per core, vs the X2 3800 512k per core. It is clock 200mhz slower but with the extra cache performs the same speed, you can easily clock it as well.
For video editing the 1mb L2 will probably be handy.

The bandwidth of the G.Skill will probably benefit you more for video editing. Just as reliable as the Corsair IMO.

I just found this statement after more searching:

"The G.Skill, like a lot of current 2GB sets, uses Samsung UCCC chips. The Asus A8N series do not like the Samsung UCCC chips. Sometimes (rare) they will work ok together, but mostly you will encounter problems like incorrect detection, not being able to run at rated speeds and bad timings."

After about an hour or so of research, I'm starting to lean towards the Cosair. lol

Loos the 7600, its 6600gt's newer replacement... so it pales compared to the 7800gs/gt/x and 79xx/g/t/x/s. I'd Either grab a 6800gt and mod it into a Quadro FX 4000 like i have, OR grab a good solid 7800gt. Not that much price difference, more then double performance difference. Your choice.

Btw, my seagate servers me true.

Cool, I'll look into other VC options!

I'm going to go with this RAM:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145486

DDR500 sounds great...but I read this quote from the newegg reviews:

"The timings were off, but if you don't know how to adjust RAM timings, you shouldn't be buying DDR500 in the first place."

That in itself helped me decide on the Cosair over the G.Skill.

I ran into this on newegg, another G. Skill ram

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231018

That ram only costs $149 and is DDR2 pc2 4200 which is better than

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231021

DDR pc 4000, isn't it?

Why does the DDR2 cost less than the DDR ram? I'm no expert at ram, but instinct would tell me it should cost more. I've got no clue if i should trust it lol

first of all DDR2 is for intel only, for now, and DDR1 is for AMD and INTEL aswell, for some boards.

On the 7600GT part, remember that sli 7600 = 1 7800, I would go for a 7900 or a 7800 from someone else, someone on overclock I believe is selling one.

Yeah, the first RAM isn't the same pin (184-pin) so it's not compatible with the mobo I'm looking at.

Thanks for the suggestion on the card. It's more of a cost to performance issue with the video card. I haven't had a chance to check prices, but I'd like to buy this setup all brand new. I'm financing this build.

Under $200.00 after taxes+shipping is what I had allocated towards the VC purchase. If there's a card that matches that price with better performance I'm all for it!
