I don't believe there is any specific "good" multiplier (in fact with the integrated memory controller it's not normally a huge issue).

Well, with 200MHz less on the CPU/NB Frequency, yes, you are going to notice noticeably lower benchmark scores. As the poster said earlier, IMO, CPU/NB Freq. > DRAM Freq. especially when it comes to benchmarking.

And no, there really isn't a "good" multiplier that you can achieve performance on. However, it's known that sometimes one memory multiplier is better than the other, but that's only stability wise. And since you tested for 24 hour Prime 95, that shouldn't be a factor.

since this does apply to you.... (i posted this earlier but there are some new entries in there.... maxxmem was run 3 times in a row after a boot up)

ramspeed DDRVolt Timings NB speed maxxmem score (in gb)

1364 | 1.57v | 6-7-5-18 | NB 2560 | 9.13, 9.1, 9.19

1386 | 1.59v | 6-7-5-18 | NB 2600 | 9.18, 9.19, 9.17

1392 | 1.59v | 6-7-5-18 | NB 2610 | 9.28, 9.22, 9.26

1446 | 1.63v | 7-7-7-20 | NB 2603 | 9.25, 9.23, 9.2

1452 | 1.63v | 7-7-7-20 | NB 2616 | 9.26, 9.33, 9.31

1460 | 1.63v | 7-7-7-20 | NB 2628 | 9.33, 9.31, 9.29

1560 | 1.65v | 7-8-7-20 | NB 2574 | 9.33, 9.27, 9.3

1580 | 1.65v | 7-8-7-20 | NB 2606 | 9.4, 9.4, 9.4 (all 3 runs exact same score...)

1586 | 1.65v | 7-8-7-20 | NB 2617 | 9.35, 9.4, 9.43 (shouldn't this be faster then the score above?)

if u noticed, i tried to keep the NB at roughly the same speed for each. I should note that ONLY the 1386 and 1392 ram speed as passed stability for 24 hours. the 3 scores at 15xx failed stability in a couple of hours, the 3 14xx ones failed at about the 6 hour mark all the time(i think this has more to do with my cpu's IMC then anything else). This should help u figure out what settings you want.

just a note that i am currently stability testing the 1364 speed although i'm debating if its' worth giving up 50mhz on the NB for 61mhz on the CPU.

Overall, try both for what you actually use your computer for and go with whichever feels better. P95 and all that are great tests ... imho, what you actually use your computer for is more important. On my sig rig, I run as shown for doing intensive CAD work. And then to run folding overnight, I bump it down to 411x9.5=3.9GHz as I haven't gotten 4.0 to work for overnight folding. But it makes Win 7 really snappy.

... now if I could get off the forums and get back to work.

I've had similar debate quite a few times recently - just went through it again 10min ago

Thanks for all the help.

^^

well... if it passes stability, i might take the faster cpu mainly because, my ram is nowhere near my bottleneck so i might as well up the cpu speed.

OK - so along those same lines of compromise, higher CPU or higher NB - I'd like your opinion.

I worked to see what the highest stable NB my rig could handle. It booted at 2730NB - and holy crap both my memory scores & windows in general loved the NB boost - but going that high with NB completely destabilized my CPU. It looks like the best CPU I can get will be 3.8x with NB that high.

That's a significant drop from 4.1 - or even anything in the 3.9x range - yet all benchmarks look great except CPU scores, which would obviously be lower. Memory marks were outstanding & graphics scores were on par with same tests @ higher CPU.

Given these results, which way would you go for 24/7 setup - higher NB / lower CPU, or higher CPU / lower NB - and by lower NB, I mean in the 2580-2600 range.

EDIT - I should add that I've given up on the merit of lower timings etc - my memory absolutely smoked @ 8-8-8-24-1T 1680MHz with the higher NB. MaxxMem score (in GB) was 9.91!!

Thank You.
