2 Broadband connections - 8 PCs... need ideas.

Hello everyone.

I need feedback on how to set up this network. I'm trying to resolve an issue I encountered involving bittorrent. Here's a brief explenation of the issue:

My home LAN right now, is connected like this:

Internet --> Cable Modem --> Wireless Router --> 16 port Switch --> 8 PC's

Recently I dove into the world of Bittorrent. I assigned one of the computers in my network to be the "download" computer. This computer runs a download client pretty much 24/7, using several P2P networks, but mostly Bittorrent. All the computers have static IPs and I've set up NAT and port forwarding/triggering on the router. I noticed that when BitTorrent was active all the other computers in the network became extremely slow (in terms of internet connectivity) or they lost the connection all together. It appears there is severe bottlenecking with NAT on the router, and the router may be going coocoo.

So... I ordered a brand new separate Broadband connection (cable).

My idea is to connect the "download" computer directly to the web on its own connection... and have the other computers riding on another connection.

What would be the best setup for this? I want the "download" computer to be able to access my LAN.

One suggestion was to put two NICs on the "download" computer... and I could bridge both connections in Windows XP.

Ideas?
sounds complicated, I know
any feedback would be greatly appreciated

THANKS
CW

I suggest that you have all of the computers or atleast some of them on the router, because when you have a switch its hard for the router to send all of the ips throught the switch. Also, I suggest you get a serious router, i dont know what you have, if you could list it i could help, also if you have 2 connections do yo have to modems\
outers\\switches?

I was thinking of having it like this:

Internet 1 --> modem -->Belkin Wireless G+ Router --> Switch --> 7 PCs

Internet 2 --> modem --> 1 PC (for downloads)

I will have a cable modem for each connection. Since I plan on connecting just one computer to the second connection I imagined I wouldn't need a router (although I do have an extra one just in case). The important thing is that I want the download computer to also talk to my other PCs, but I want it to only use that second connection for its internet access. Thats why I thought of having 2 NICs on that computer, one connecting to the cable modem, the other to the switch on my LAN... and somehow bridging those connections on XP. Would that work?

Thanks, real helpful

Fine, lets say I download copyright free music and home movies from the web, better? The point is how to set the whole thing up.

Really setting up the Ips addies will not be that hard, just will take a little time thats all. anyways routers get confused also and try to assign the same ip to 2 computers most times so you may need to set it up manually anyways, so a switch and a router will work fine.

The DL comp will have its own IP sense its gonna be a seprate modem. But you might get charged for having 2 modems like that for the cable company needs to give that mac on that modem access to the internet. I tried that once and had to pay for having it like that. Nice thing is about that is that the conection will have its own bandwith

Actually... I called and ordered a separate connection installed. So they will come in on saturday, run new cable and give me a new, separate modem.
