2 Broadband connections - 8 PCs... need ideas. - Page 2

To set your network up to utilize two or more connections for what you want to do is actually simple.

I'm going to call the connection that you are going to use for the torrent system C1 and Router1. I'm going to call the connection for everyone else C2 and Router2. C1 and Router1 will be your NEW hardware that you're going to get.

C1--Modem--Router1--Switch--Computers
C2--Modem--Router2--Same Switch--Computers

• On Router1, turn off Local DHCP Server and change your Local IP Address to a different number...IE: 192.168.1.50

• On the Torrent System, open the Local Area Connection Properties, click on Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), then click the Properties button.

---• Click the Use the following IP address radio button, then input these following numbers:
--- IP Address: 192.168.1.xx (xx being any number you want 0-254)
--- Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
--- Default gateway: 192.168.1.50 (Or whatever IP you put into the Router1)

---• Click the Use the following DNS server addresses radio button, then input this following number:
--- Preferred DNS server: 192.168.1.50 (Or whatever IP you put into the Router1)

EXAMPLE:

• Now your Torrent system will connect to only that internet connection AND will still be accessable to all other systems on your internal network.

• For Router2, simply keep it set up like you do now and keep all the other computers the same.

This is what I've done where I'm at. There's three cable internet connections coming in here, four routers, two gig switches, and they all play together nicely.

Happy Torrenting,
Xaine99

why do you have switches in the network.. why not just direct connect them to the router.. i guess switches always confused me they seem pointless or out dated .. but im not a net head
