ya you shold be able to get that chip to 3.0 easily, and the northy at 3.0 is a pretty decent chip. you can get a 3.0 northy to 3.4 with no effort at all.

Northwoods at 4.0 would eat sooo much voltage, and anything above 1.75 will have kill that chip, no matter the cooling, with northwoods anything after 1.75 vcore just kills the chip in a matter of months, Sudden Northwood Death Syndrom is what they called it.

I agree dont run a Northwood at 1.7 or more as it will kill it. The cpu in hand can easily OC to atleast 3.0ghz. The prescotts core CPU only shines at around 3.6-.3.8ghz so in benchmarks that Northwood will do better at 3.0ghz than the prescott would.

Yeah the extra scalability of the 31 stage pipeline prescotts really does give you better performance over the 20 stage pipeline northwood cores.

Clock for clock northwoods are faster (by a little).

A 3.0Ghz northwood performs around the same as a 3.2GHz Prescott imo.

If it is a northwood def keep that voltage below 1.7v as the others have mentioned.

The shorter the stage pipeline the better..Why Northwoods come out on top.

Not that i am unhappy, But i was hoping to get even more out of my CPU but i am pretty sure that northwoods really dont scale beyond about 3.6-3.9Ghz or so compared to prescotts hitting 4.0GHz+

I suppose i could be a bit more brave and up the core voltage more but its sitting at around 1.65v already

Yes a prescott running at 4.0ghz will run slightly better than a Northwood at 4.0ghz

Yup yup, actualy it takes a 3.4-3.6 Ghz Prescott to Benchmark in CERTIAN applications equally to a 3.0-3.2 northwood.

For example, a 3.0 Northy with a 250fsb, (Thats overclocked to 3.75) and a 1000mhz Bus Speed, would absolutely nail the same exact set up on a prescott core, Prescots have a larger L2, but also much higher L2 Latency.
Honestly Intel should of improved on the northwood a little, maybe then the P4 wouldnt of been such a dissapointment.

Personally i dont think overall the P4 series was a dissapointment, i think that the prescott core should have been thought about a little better. The Northwoods where a great core...Still are infact. well i have the 3.4ghz Northwood in my sig and its great.

Yeah i was supprised to see the difference between my Northwood (M0) at 3.0GHz (250FSB/1000Bus 12x multi) and a prescott (C0) at 3.0Ghz (200FSB/800Bus 15x multi)

Applications like SuperPi and games saw major improvements upon the prescott core.

/me wishes i had a bigger Northwood to play with

Yes me to..Well to get hold of the NORTHWOOD isnt to hard but to get my CPU in particular is actually rather hard to get hold of.
