Crunch Build Log Bandwidth-Killer edition - Page 26

he already considered the thumb drive idea... and now hes reverting back to the hdd decision. personally, i would go with hard drives, even though they take more space. that way you actually have 4 fully-functional, kickass rigs instead of 4 kickass rigs that can do nothing but fold because of the fact you dont have enought space to install anything.

Agreed. Hard disks are good. Now the question is, how many drives can he fit and how big/fat/large/huge/humongous can they be?

Maybe some sort of setup that you have a data server (RAID of two 320GB hard drives), an Internet server (small drive 80GB or so, no need for RAID), a general use rig (fast drives, maybe a couple 74GB, 16MB Raptors) and a spare rig in case another one in the house fails (although I know you have plenty rigs already )

I think you should recoup your costs to make crunch by throwing a couple of LAN Parties... just set crunch up as the gameservers

ZThat is what my friend with the CM Stacker said last weekend...LOL--maybe that is not such a bad idea...gotta get Crunch up and running--just waiting on some funds to get some powersupplies and SATA 300 drive together...won't be too long. I always expected this project to take a lot of twists and turns--and to take some time to evolve into a manageable creation. Won't be much longer before some more pics are posted.

No worries there...just need to get a few more parts together--the basic frame and case are fine--I am satisfied with the motherboards--just wish I had gotten at least on with RAID, but they will do the job. Thanks for the interest guys--I am taking all suggestions into consideration...part of what keep ths fun for me is the group input and the ability to show you some results...

A Crunching lanparty.... I bet they'd love those onboard graphics

Just kidding of course... Crunch is an awesome achievement, worthy of an honorable mention in Overclock.net's hall of fame (which makes me think... do we have a hall of fame?)

You don't need good graphics for game servers. Crunch would throw a decent lan party though...
