What cables? I have only cables going to the mobo...that's it--the HDDs are currently external, and after I build the Rad box they will then be refitted to there...or to a new lid. I really really want Raptor X HDDs so Ican watch!

Am I the only one that can see how this works?

Then again I was confronted by those same questions all along...LOL

You'll see.

Think back when this began...no doubt many of you thought ***...he can't get 4 mobos with Zalmans to fit in there...

Then when I got them mounted I am sure many still thought

Wow that's insane that thing will never power up...

If I had a pair of Zalmans right here I could prove they would all power up...prolly too hot to OC , but it would FOld at stock speed at least.

With low profile WBs there will be plenty of room inside with even lower ambients and (drumroll) room for highend Vcards too...

Not only will this rig Fold--it's gonna LAN game and HTPC and every other thing.

I am completely set on making this the sickest rig ever built online anywhere..not just here....

But remember I started with no budget..a single socket 754 rig and an enermax 350 PSU...

The money just threw gas on the fire..that's all...I have seen this thing completed for over a year in my mind...

Wow it looks like a lot of fun!! I hope two fans will be enough for you though. On my current WC rig my two 120mm fans sit on top of my single radiator cooling just the CPU and my load temps (folding 2 cores) is still at 45 to 46...sometimes even 47. Vcore...1.55v. With 4 CPUs you might need more fans sucking in air.

I know I know just wait and see If anyone can pull it off im sure you can.

Check out the diagram again...it is a top view looking down into the case. on each side of the external box on the back of Crunch I plan to mount 2 rads for a total of 4. On the back of the external rad box I plan to mount 4 120mm fans. Inside the box against the forward panel I plan to mount 4 pumps.

...yes right now there are two case fans..once watercooled all these 2 fans will be doing is cooling the case...4 more fans in an external rad box will push air through 4 bonneville heatercores. 4 pumps will push water through 4 waterblocks in 4 seperate loops.

I have listened to all the different ideas about one pump, two pumps, one big rad etc etc. I feel the best way to be sure that each rig recieves the best possible cooling is for each rig to have a completely seperate loop. This may change, as things always do, but right now that is what I think will work best.

4 fans 4 rads 4 waterblocks 4 pumps--aproximately $850
4 Raptor X- aproximately $1300
no pricing on X1950XTX yet...but guessing $1600 by December

$3,750

I have almost that much in there now...and I still need to replace the ECS mobo with a mate to the other 3.

People are paying $20K for gold plated Omens...and that's just for status...

Now I am not entirely set on what Vcard I want to run...I am using the X1950XTX as an example because it is a high end gaming card that outperforms everything out there...but honestly there might be a better match for these little bitty processors...

No sense in bottlenecking for status...I am not into status. I am not trying to alienate peeps here by swinging my E-member around and throwing cash to make a splash.I think the 1950's are teh seksee as the kids say...but I need to do some research and see if a 3.12 ghz processor would just be bottlenecking the GPU.

I orignally thought the highest rated AIW card would be awesome...and originally maybe just one of those. To make a nice HTPC set up.

But then my modder buddy pointed out that Crunch would be perfect for gaming with 4 players...you could arrange 4 tables around Crunch and set up 4 monitors and all that and have a major Fragfest. My buddy is also coming into some money soon and wants to open a Cyber Cafe featuring this set up...which might be a good place for Crunch to live...he is completely serious about this.

Now SLI is all the rage with his crowd, so if it didn't have that or better they would hardly bat an eye...to draw the crowd he is looking for to populate this cafe I think the gaming ability would have to far surpass anything a normal gamer could afford to run at home...for them to spend cash to game at the cafe. I'll provide the box...he can swing for the big monitors and all that...

So having cards that well excede SLI is all that is needed. If the AIW card out in December can do that then that would be enough...that way the clients could also surf the tube or whatever...

And of course the Rig will always be a Folder...for Team 37726...

It's a pain in my butt that everything has to cost so much...I would love to be able to pull all this off with used gear and all that...but really it has already moved beyond that.

Money is not real important to me. And status that money brings is short lived and IMO sleazy.

But pulling off a sigfnificant challenge like this is exciting and keeps me interested in going forward. And right now that is what I choose to do instead of buying a nice new car or motorcycle or boat or whatever...I mean I spent 5 times this much on my Buell...and it could kill me and leave my Wife a widow...at least Crunch is doinf something useful and relatively harmless to me (if you don't count staying up this late...lol)

Personally I am happy with Crunch as is..it's a Folding rig...it's Folding...end of story.

But, who else would care about that? You can't game on it, you can't watch movies on it, you can't DVR or VIVO with it, it won't run a monitor at decent resolution...so unless all this $3000 rig is gonna do is sit there and Fold I need to add better HDDs (the drives are slow as molasses..it takes a long time to boot and load stuff) and some Gaming grade Vcards. That costs money...

So I know it sounds nutty, but that's the plan...

All along I have nurtured this project with what I had on hand...leftover scraps of material for the cae, bits and bobs to get it going...It's not that I have to make Crunch a Gamer...I want to make Crunch do everything we expect from a high end rig and do it exceedingly well.

If I found a better OC mobo I would change them out for that mobo. If I found a better OC chip I would change those out too. I am not tied to a particular hardware configuration. I started with a modest budget and needed to use the gear I could afford. As the budget increases, the options for better gear are presented.

What I can't figure out is where or when this mod will stop. Maybe never.

Then again if some sort of personal or financial hardship were to befall me I would stop right now.

If I had to, I would part out the rig and still have a smile on my face because up to now I have followed through with every detail I set out to accomplish...and in the end that's what makes it worthwhile for me...keeping my word, making good on the claims.

Plus it's fun.
