Hey, First Build

Thread Starter
Hey, whats up. I finally got the chance to build my own computer. Im just waiting on the processor, the HDD, the CD/DVD Drive, the soundcard and monitor. Should be in tomorow, everything is currently in a city an hour away, i cant wait. Everything i currently have is all put together. Im so sick of these slow problematic computers (ie Compaq, it didnt work out of the box). I might want to overclock my 7600gt, depending on how satisfied i am with it, but not too much, i want it to last a long time and i have stock cooling. And maybe my opteron 165 to 2.0ghz, but i havnt overclocked a processor yet. Ive been running my pci 5200fx from 250/320 to 320/380, the memory wont go any higher than 383, and its still slow, on the highest performing settings. So the 7600gt will be a big leap, as will the dual core processor from a celeron and 1.6ghz P4. I play a couple games from time to time when im not out with friends, i try at 3D stuff, been needing a better computer for it tho, and im decent at flash and webdesign. But overall cars are more my thing. Guess thats about it.

You can easily get that Opty well past 2.0 with absolutely no harm to it. Looks like a nice rig you're building there! Welcome to the forum!

REMEMBER!!!

If you dont know what you are doing take care!

I'd suggest that, before you do anything, set your system up and run it for a month before you tinker. Make sure that it works and is reliable etc. Overclocking provides great results but can also cost you alot of money and by the sounds of it you need this system to last.

Make sure you read and try to understand what you are doing as you can harm your system if you overclock wrong.

When it's set up and up and running the first think i would down load is overclocking software for the graphics card. check that out and boost the power then move on to the opty but each time give it a while before you change somthg else.

If you don't know what you are doing and your system wont start ther is a problem getting online and getting help!

Don't want to be pesimistic but take care!

I would say you have the basis for a very capable PC that will knock the socks off your old rig.

Also the OC'ing bug will get you one day and you will be in a good position to get the best performance out of that stock kit

Thanks. Im on it now and its amazing. Id never attempt to overclock my processor before i read up on it a lot and knew exactly what i was doing. I do want this to last so i wont do much overclocking if any. Dont have the money to buy new parts and i probly never will with college. I played Americas Army at 1280x1024 on Highest settings and it ran smooth as can be and never went below 35 fps, that was the lowest i saw it dip just for a second outside on Hostpial. Its usually around 70, maybe 50 outdoors. I hadnt played that game forever and running it like that was amazing. Now i will actually be able to do some 3d stuff i havnt been able to do.
