Microsoft piracy pop-up is persistent - Page 5

having said all this, seems quite a few of you are against "priacy"...but what about say a person who can't afford to buy windows xp and the computer he wants, and sees how 95 is free now (i think) should he be limited to the computer he wants and 95 and then be limited by the os in what he can do?

vista is a prime example how on earth can we afford to upgrade the computers we own, screens and then buy the os.. just not possible for average users..hell i doubt companys cant afford most of that..

People will end up buying it though. Companies too. All because microsoft has a virtual monopoly over the computer industry. Apple has approx 7% of the market share, windows 90 and linux 3 - (thats what it was the last time I checked). The average home user hasnt a clue what linux is, let alone how to use it. The current adolescents seem to think that Apple make MP3 players, not computers. I read a peice of coursework yesterday, this is what it said, and i quote, "Computer's run on Microsoft"....***!? Remember, I am in the BTEC IT class level 3 (the highest) and some one from a previous year, at the same level had written that.

We could fit what many adolescents "know" in a coffe mug

I remember a report how the majority of COLLEGE students thought Comedy Central's The Daily Show was a good source for news, and most considered themselves 'well informed' based soley on watching that show.

I agree, the ultimate solution would be someone to compete with M$. And I am crossing my fingers that Google gets their OS up for a demo soon.....

No, having competion in the OS market would not be such a good thing. Cheaper prices maybe, but it would hurt innovation and would stifle growth in the PC industry. Why? Look at all the other tech markets flooded with different manufacturers. How many times do you hear of squabbles over patents and standards. Rivals cannot agree, therefore you would have no set standards for the industry. What Microsoft means is that a company in Canada can deal with a company in Greece like they were side by side. If you had many different operating systems then the company in Canada could take much longer to deal with the Greek company because thier software is in incompatible formats because the rival software companies couldn't agree on a standard.

With Microsoft calling the shots it has enabled massive growth in the industry because everyone is reading from the same page. There is one standard and everyone runs to it.

You are the first person I have seen that thinks this too. Imagine if in the near future we had not one but 50 operating systems... three words: "massive compatability problems". No one will agree on a single effective standart and the industry as a whole will slow to a crawl. You can see it now with the whole Linux vs. Windows thing. What needs to happen is that MS needs to reform itself and be more responsible as far as the computer world goes, and not do it just for the money...
Sometimes capitalism plain out sucks.

I prefer Capitalism to a Dictatorship, even a benevolent one. I would not appreciate Communism, even one that followed the Utopian view of Sir Thomas More. And the Social Democracy (Capitalism) of Canada is my favorite.

I think it only installs itself if you do "express update". If you do "custom update" you have the option to uncheck the box that says ms validation tool or something similar. and then click close, and it will ask do u want to be bugged again for this update, say no to it and u shud b ok. check future updates for similar installation of update.

Plus if you are a DeVry student, you get a copy of MS Windows and most of MS Software free of charge. Even though its already included in ur tution, you cant opt out of it, so y not take it? You can get one like every 6-8 months or so. I've been there for like 3 years, so plenty of legal copies to play around with.

I prefer capitalism too. It can be the best thing that will ever happen to you provided you know what you're doing, along with a little luck. Communism sucks and we have seen it's failures.

Lemme throw my 2C in the bucket:

I gave up downloading anything AWHILE ago, now i am legit

When I first bought my computer parts, I decided that it would be better to use the 30days and reformat until I got the computer I wanted. I am glad I waited, or I would have been stuck with Athlon XP 1500/128MB's ram

Piracy is WRONG, but as long as it is easy and openly accepted it will happen!
