Ever took a Western Digital HDD apart that the Smart went out on it? I did with my Caviar SE WD2500AAJS. far as I can tell, they have the same boards as the 150GB-500GB Caviar SE's. been hoping to find one someone dropped and bent the forks in it to replace the board, as it was a very good HDD to me. Here, take a look at the pics I got. When the SMART would read, (periodically), I still got full speeds read and write from it. Seems the contacts burning out and transistors was the only problem.
