Using a water chiller instead of a radiator?

Hello, I'm a new forum member. However, I am not new to computer modding. In my current w/c set up, I have a dual 120 rad and I was just thinking about how I love it when the A/C is on (in my dorm, the rad is right over it) and my temps drop to like 22/28 for both my OC'd CPU and OC'd GPUs. It got me thinking of how when I go back home, my hot ass room is going to not allow my temps to be so low. So wouldn't the external temperature not matter with a water chiller? Something like this . And it would also be a space saver I think. Just a thought.

Has anyone done anything like this?

EDIT: I just noticed those are not inline... Are there Inline ones?

With a smart system, you don't need to be inline.

The thing to figure out is the cooling pattern of that thing. Maybe a larger fill/tank on the other side of the pump?

If this thing stirs, then a larger resevoir could take advantage of it? Or maybe a few serial tanks (put it in the middle.) Or maybe it is very effective in a really small tank with high flow?

Hmm.. I want one not to see

I am thinking more along the lines of modding a resevoir like this one where you stick the probe at the bottom. Apparently the single probe can cool 20 gallons of water to 6-8 degrees F below ambient air temperature; I wonder if using a small setup with a resevoir would make a difference. Perhaps it would cool much more. Also, if this works, it would be a great alternative to the huge dual 120mm radiators and fans for only a few dollars more. Maybe I'll end up trying this towards the end of the summer if I make enough money. Here's the description of that probe listed above.

id say that with that probe and maybe a half gallon res you could cool with that with high flow and that would allow you to use high flow low flow restrictions cuz you have no rad. Basically your res becomes your rad. I might have to see if i can get my hands on something like that through work.

I don't believe it has even close to enough cooling capasity. It only consumes 50W max, meaning, that it "propably" can't remove the 150-200+ watts from your system.

It might give you something, if you hook it up after your rad though. Just don't expect it to be the main cooling device in your system.

For the record.

Watts do not equal cooling or heating power.

Efficiency does.

Something soaking 50 watts with amazing effeciency *could* beat a higher watt heating system (depending on its heat conversion efficiency.)

Reading about that unit around on the web though.. It is intended to maintain a tempurature, not change it.

But it would still be interesting to find out how much work it can do

Exactly, it's intended for maintaining a temp in a 20 galon tank, where the only heatloss/gain is thru the glass. That dosn't take much effort compared to remowing the heatload from a PC.

And yes, I know it's also about eficiency, but really, what you guys are looking for here, is a small phacechange powered WC setup. Something with a 6+ CC compressor. Anything less won't doo the job.

I don't see this unit beeing abel of pulling the temp down by more than one or perhaps two degrees, IF uset after the normal rad.

Without the rad, you will soon boil water.

But go ahead and try it. I might be wrong.

Interesting enough, look what I found...

It says that the heat transfer is 0.1*C/W, which if you break that down using the specific heat equation (Applied heat/energy = (Specific Heat)(Mass)(Change in temp) ) you can figure out what Watts they're running at on their TECs. However, I don't feel like it right now, I'll do it tomorrow lol.
