Yet Another Newbie Overclocker

I'm sure you're all sick of helping morons like me get more out of their systems, but if not, I'm trying to push my 920 to at least a stable 4.0 if not a little higher. Right now, I'm at about 3.8, but I know that my setup needs some work to get the most out of it. A screen is attached, but if some info you want is missing, please feel free to ask.

Oh, and there's some better fans on the way so temps shouldn't be an issue just yet.

I went straight to 4GHz on P6T-SE and P6TD-Deluxe using method 2. You might need a bit more VCore, I need 1.29v for 4GHz and watch your temps if you up the VCore.

Start with what the above poster said...
Then work your vcore down to as low as you can and keep it stable.

Remember the higher the vcore the higher the temps...

All right, after following this guide from techreaction (since I had used the other one previously), I now know that other than a few more things to keep in balance, OCing hasn't changed as much as I thought since the last time I got into it. Mostly just different terms/ways the mobo handles multipliers.

Anyway, I'm now testing at 4.11GHz with my RAM at 1568MHz with 8-8-8-18 timings (rated for 9-9-9-24, but they seem to be handling it well), and QPI somewhere around 7200MHz. Voltages are:
Vcore:1.35v
QPI volt:1.35v
vDimm:1.64v

Temps are around low 80s under stress, but there's two fans on the way to replace the stock one on my hyper 212+ so that should help. That heatsink has been pulling more than it's share of the weight.

So. Is any of this risking the life of my system other than normal OCing?
Can I push the RAM timings any more? If so, to what?

EDIT: had to up my vcore two steps and now, linpack seems to close for some reason. The last time, it got to the 38th iteration and I got a windows error. Though the wierd part is that then IBT gives me the stable message.

Any ideas?

the hotter it is the less time it'll stay alive. I'm not much in the know on the i7's, but 80C+ sounds a bit high. I'd be interested to see how much a diff the better fans on the 212 go, because I'd be inclined to think that those particular styles of coolers are hitting their limits at where you want the cpu to go.

Oh, I'm definitely at it's limit, but for $16, who can argue. That's only with IntelBurnTest at max on 8 threads for 50 iterations, which is higher than even prime95 gets it. I'm now folding that 2684 again and its only reaching 76 at max.

yeah it's definitely the best bang-4-buck cooler at the moment. But if you want to get serious with the oc, you're gonna have to invest in a serious HSF.
