Just got a new CPU today, Pentium d 950 and its got the c1 stepping, no overclocking done yet, still researching 950's limits etc before I go further.

Where from?

Plan on overclocking it? Post some SS.

It wasn't new, got it from overseas and it was a pleasant surprise to find it had C1.

Plan on overclocking alright! Runs lot cooler the my prescott. On stock speed its temps on 100% load on both cores was 43 C. Ambient was 21 C.

Those are great temps. My Presler runs about the same heat as my 478 Prescott did LOL, but mine is B1, and it is running at 3.96

Just a few questions before I do some overclocking.

Everest says my FSB bandwidth is 6400MB/s and my Memory bandwidth is 10667MB/s. This is 667 memory, so 667 let alone 800 or 1000 memory is a bit of a waste unless your overclock your FSB to the same bandwidth. Is this what the purpose of 1:1 FSB/ram ratio is?

So, if this is the case, I should lower my multiplier to 12, then bring my FSB up to 1:1, overclock FSB to stock memory speed (333) and then bring my multiplier up as far as it goes. Does that sound right?

With a presler 950, what are safe/maximum voltages and safe/max temps?

Any advice appreciated, Thanks

you cannot change multiplier on intels oly on EE

You can on this one. BTW. What programs are good for testing stability and all that and how do you do screenshots, isn't there a guide on how to do it here somewhere?

Stability? I use PCMark05. Prime is a waste of time/electricity beyond 1 hour IMO, that's why I don't run it. PCMark05 and 3DMark06-05.

Post some SS. We'd like to see.

Your best performance will come from the highest possible FSB while maintaining a 1:1 ratio between your CPU and memory. Even though your memory is rated at 667Mhz, it is only running at 400Mhz. Ropey had an excellent example to explain the reason the benchmarks report higher memory bandwidth:

When you get on it you are moving at 5KM/h. Now a simple addition of velocities would (this is a benchmark) show that you are "relative to the observer" outside of the bus and who is focused upon you, not the bus, moving at 60KM/h + 5KM/h = 65KM/h. However, and here is the reality of actual placed movement. The person sitting on that bus will get to the station at the same time as you no matter how fast you move on the bus. The person on the car in front of you sitting on a seat will get to the station faster than you even if you are travelling 20KM/h on the escalator. Thus, there is No addition of velocities other than theoretically.

ok, Done some overclocking, I'm not sure on limits yet so I'm being cautious. Dont want to kill it. Set up was P5WD2-P, 2 gb Geil 667 4 4 4 12 memory @ 533, Leadtek Gforce 6600 Graphics Card. Ambient temp was 22 c and highest temp reached during pcMark test was 51 C.
