who am I up against?

Okay, I'm new to HWbot, as of today, and I am a little confused as to who I will be competing against.

Tomorrow I will be getting my new setup in, SR-2 and 2 x e5620.

Unfortunately, the SR-2 is not known for great overclocking, and the e5620 doesn't have the highest multiplier.

So, when it comes to cpu benching, will I be competing with people who have the same cpu and mobo as I do, or just the same cpu?

Also, because of the poor overclocking of the SR-2, I assume not a lot of people on HWbot use it? If so, does this mean I won't have a ton of competition?

Well...

SR-2 benching is a small market for quad core chips.

You'll be able to compete in WPrime 8x CPU (and do pretty well... the best run is two X5677's at 4.6GHz). Unfortunately, there's not a lot of points to be had there. First place is only 6.2 points. It seems that 2x E5620 results are separated from 1x results, even for benches that only require one core (Pifast, SuperPi), which means no competition and very few points.


Your best showing will be in Vantage because the CPU score makes such a difference.

Also, I'd recommend posting a topic in the HWBot forums asking if you can post 2x E5620 single threaded benches with the regular E5620 submissions. Can you run the SR-2 with just one chip in it? That might be a good alternative if they say no.



With regards to the overclocking capabilities of the SR-2, I think you're out of luck. From what I've heard, going above 200 BCLK is pretty difficult. Since the E5620 has a max multiplier of 21, this puts you at a wall around 4.2GHz. That will still be pretty epic for Vantage, but pretty bad for everything else

SR-2 is really only good for benching 3Dmark 06 and vantage, so just pick up a bunch of GPU's to bench on it and you will be ranked by GPU instead of by cpu, and grap a bunch of boints that way.

Yeah, unfortunately I know.

I really wanted to start doing some HWbot benching, however, the cpu aspect of that will have to be on hold.

I'll have to do that, and yes, you can use just one of the sockets.


Off topic:

Is the bloodrage still one of the better boards to bench on. I remember it was one of the best when x58 boards first came out. I have not seen one in awhile, but when I do see them they are pretty cheap. I'm considering picking one up and doing LN2 on it. Or is it better just to wait awhile, and save up to get a newer x58 board?

The BR requires a hardmod to push high frequencies. Once you've done it, it's awesome.
