Differences:

- Sandy: 2.2 GHz, $100 cheaper, Overclocks really good, Single Core.
- Opty: 1.8GHz, Dual Core, could be good OC, but not as good as the older Optys (I've heard)

I would go for the San Diego chip. It was made to game hard. The Opteron can OC very good, but it is a server chip... The San diego is what I would buy. No question.

If i remember rightly the Opteron series in 940 pin with registered memory was designed for the server environment the 939 pin was based more on the desktop platform

Get the Opty, It should overclock really well and it's future proof since it's dual core.

Nope, the opteron is not a server chip. The 940 opterons are server chips. The opteron is a better choice because it is dualcore, in my opinion. You should be able to get that 165 up to 2.8 or so and I'd rather have 2.8 dualcore than 3.0 single core.

Get the opty.Like semprons these are under-rated processors as most can easily match fx processors with a good oc(not the sempron the opteron )
