Cooling Requirement Advice - Page 2

I do get a little weary of everyone screaming BIG TYPHOON the minute anyone asks what cooler to use. It is almost as bad as the way they Shout ASUS the minute someone asks what motherboard to use. The BT really is limited in what applications it can be used in since it is so BIG. So I just try to remind people that Scythe is out there since a lot of people have never heard of them.

That being said I will shut up and get off my stool for now............

I looked at the Scythe Katana. It looks really good, especially the variable angle aspect; however it has less than half the airflow capability of the Zalman 9500 that I posted, which is why I am not certain it will hold under heavy overclocking. If that isn't how the heatsinks work generally, then someone please correct me.

How about a Thermalright XP-120 with a good fan on top of it? Comes out to nearly 3.5".

Thankyou ThaWaxShop, I knew it would fit, but some people just "blurt" out things before looking at the actual data.

The BT does not cool as well as the Zalman (source = tom's hardware testing), and none of the options you all have presented have even 60% of the airflow that the Zalman has. That is why I asked for reasons why you suggest the other CPU cooling devices other than reputation. If I don't know why you prefer your specific devices then I just have the data and specs to compare with that eliminated your suggestions in the first place, leading me to the Zalman 9500... I hope that makes sense...

well your thinking is a little off maybe the zalman does take the BT stock for stock but your forgeting the ONE best thing... the BT comes with a low rpm fan upgrading it makes it ALOT better as it does with the TUniq tower 120 they can change fans making them more effective. But the zalman only has one fan option .. the one it comes with
