Sony PS3 vs. high-end PC graphics cards - Page 6

When you look beyond the hype of these fan boy fodder websites, there is actually some truth to be had. The the technology thats "beyond 16xAA" is called quincunx.

Google search it before you make yourselves look like even bigger intransigent troglodytes. When will PC elitist learn that not everything has to be brute forced; that clever programming is at the root of most of the games that we hold near and dear to our hearts. Have we forgotten that fact; that creativity isn't limited to the amount of transistors you have?

The advent of more powerful hardware has seemingly had an adverse effect on the gaming industry and affect on us personally. We are so enamored with how many frames our games get that we forget to judge the innate merits of the game itself, irrespective of platform.

Who cares anyways about graphics. I would rather play super mario bros 3 than Halo, Gears of War, Crysis, Infamous, GT5. I mean seriously, PS3 has the best capabilities for a console. GT5 looks really good. God of War III looked amazing. Here is what I say, screw PC, screw gaybox, screw PS3. Play what you want where you want on what you want. And I also say, Prototype was ****. Infamous was way better (from a non fan boy opinion). I say enjoy games if you enjoy them. Screw graphics. Its ruining everything. FFXIV looked amazing, but the game was ****. Read this thread. People care way too damn much. End of story. I am going to go play Rad Racer.

The thing about this is that most games don't have the story or gameplay to keep my attention span so I play them solely for the eye candy. Not everyone is the same buddy. Shallow? Probably, or maybe I just have ADD?

Not shallow. Just looking for different things. I like eye candy too. WoW is extremely popular and it doesnt have great eye candy. Neither does Halo or Call of Duty. So I cant get my Rad Racer cartridge to load, so I am going to play Tysons Punch Out.

This article from early 2001 mentions a Geforce 3 using Quincunx...

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/high,294-23.html

Should I assume then that, this isn't a new or PS3 specific development? In fact one might suggest it's actually inferior. If you look at their comparison images Quincunx doesn't do a bad job but it's still not as good as straight up AA. It's used for it's better performance at that sacrifice of a certain amount of quality.

So I'm not so sure it's the holy grail of image tricky.
