SD Memory Card - Page 2

Video is video, it doesn't matter what the megapixel is. Video is cropped at 640x480 or 320x240, not the full 3xxx x 2xxx resolution of the camera for every frame. 1Gb is cool if it's only $5 more but you won't need fast memory with a P&S camera. There are people out there (like me on occasion lol) who shoot sports photography with an 8MP DSLR at 5fps in RAW where the images are like 5-6megs each so I need the fast write speeds. You won't need it with a P&S and you definately won't need it at 2fps.

btw, try using the button rather than triple posting

you'll get ~160 shots on a 512 and ~320 shots on a 1Gb. Changes are you'll run out of battery before filling up either card. The choice is yours.

For video there is no difference.

You will see a diference, in the event you are taking high rez pictures faster than the card can store them, and the buffer is filled up.

Example. your camera is 6Mp. That gives you a filesize of around 4Mb per shot. the card transfers 9mb(bit) per sec. that's around 1.1Mb/sec. Meaning it takes around 3.5sec to store a shot.

I don't know how big the buffer is on your camera, but when it's full and you want to shoot another frame, your are out of luck. The only thing that can help you is a faster write time onto the card.

But remember: if your buffer is big enough for say 10 shots. then it will start writing to the card as soon as you take the first shot. That gives you more than 10 shots, because the first shots are stored before the buffer runs out.

I would have to agree with chukky on this. If you don't have any intentions of becoming the next paparazzi, you most likely dont need the fancy card. On the other hand, if it's just a few buck extra, I would perhaps doo it anyway.

Hope that helps
