I am going ot purchase a laptop and i want to pay under 1500 but still be able to play some games on it. IE CS Source. I ahve been shopping around NewEgg.com for a couple days trying to find the best buy. I dont know much about video cards and gfx cards so i am looking for help.

And if all possible i would liek to get a laptop that is under 1k and overclock it to made it value a nice 1500 laptop.

Thanx in advance.

Laptops aren't really made for overclocking. They're too compact and the cooling sucks. They'll overheat, and the battery will die out really quick. Buy what you need, cause you can't really change anything about it.

I'd recommend a pentium m, or Core Solo. Then get at least a go 6600. That'd play most games at low - medium settings...and should be within your budget. Might be hard to find though.

Newegg has a rockin ABS Mayhem for somewhere in your range...in fact they have quite a few, but finding a decent combo with the right ram and video card (as long as it's a Turion or Centrino) you should be fine.

***EDIT

Sideburns is correct, but even further, laptops WILL NOT overclock, but you can squeeze some more speed out of the video card.

Yeah, overclocking on a laptop isn't really a good idea since the best cooling on most laptops is a 40mm fan and a copper heat sink.

I actually try to under clock laptops if I can...in an atempt to stop some heat and for my purposes a 333MHz laptop is plenty fast.

However, if you want gaming...you'll just have to get a good one, but I would also recomend a "cooling pad". they are very thin, lightwieght plastic rectangles with fans that you put under your laptop and they are powered via a USB port. They help imensly to remove some heat and you can actually put your laptop on your lap...with out getting third degree burns on your legs

What did you end up deciding?

As for the underclocking comment, newer laptops are designed to use less power by lowering the cpu multiplier when the processing power is not needed.
