Zalman VF3000F on GTX 580

Thread Starter
I desided to test how GTX 480 version of Zalman VF3000F fit's on GTX 580.

I have already writed a review about VF3000A, so this is not so accurate review..
http://www.overclock.net/ati-cooling...0a-review.html

But here is the "case" of Zalman VF3000F.

And from the inside i found these.

This is where from the installation started.

First thing was uninstalling the stockcooler.

There was some differences between GTX 480 and GTX 580, and sink that was meant to cool mem's and fet's didn't fit, so i needed to mod it..

After 15min sawing, it fitted fine!

Next i need to install VF3000-cooler itself.

Result was this (after 2 rounds of Unigine Heaven 2.1 with max settings):

I hope this gave you a little advice, dont buy this GTX 480-version of VF3000F if you cannot do little modding on it!

But i must say that temps are incredible!

I hope you liked! And sorry for my bad english..

Asmola:
Kudos to you for modding the Zalman to fit a 580!
Your review is very well done, the photos are excellent.

So, even the 580 with it's "improved" cooling can still benefit from a good aftermarket cooler. I installed a VF3000F on my 480 recently, and it has worked very well. When you reviewed the AMD version a few months ago it looked like a good cooler.

I chose the Zalman over the Accelero this time because of the one-piece heatsink plate they include with it. Fortunately you were able to mod that sink for the 580. I would think that Zalman should have a 580 version out soon enough.

Good job

Just curious to see if anyone else has tried this and what your results have been like? As for the OP, have you done any heavy stress testing? I would like to know because I plan on trying this same mod myself.

So just a quick hit with the dremel and it'll fit, nice. Now just gotta see what temps I get with my 580, then might go with this if it's cheaper then the 580 version.
