Why Skyrim Is Just 6GB
Quote:
Ever since Bethesda announced that Skyrim would take up just 6GB on a disk, many gamers were puzzled, how could such a huge and expansive game be so small?
"According To Him “6 gigs: New engine & we’re much better at compression (art/voice/data). It’s huge yet more optimized than we’ve had before. And faster.”

On Skyrim

Plot - source
Hidden Text Below! (Click to show)

Two hundred years have passed since the events of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, and it is now the 201st year of the 4th Era (4E 201). The High King of Skyrim has been assassinated, and the threat of civil war looms over the land of Skyrim; one side wishes to secede from the crumbling Empire, while the other wishes to remain a part of it, believing that it is still worth fighting for. To make matters worse, this schism is the final event in a prophecy foretold by the Elder Scrolls that will lead to the return of the dragons under Alduin, the Nordic god of destruction.
The player begins the game imprisoned, being led to their execution as a result of crossing the border into Skyrim. As the player lays their head on the chopping block, a dragon attacks. In the midst of the chaos several Stormcloaks along with their leader & fellow prisoner Ulfric Stormcloak assist in the players & Ulfric's escape. Somewhere along the line they learn that Skyrim's civil war is the last in a sequence of prophetic events foretold by the Elder Scrolls and that they are Dovahkiin - a Dragonborn, born and charged with the duty of defeating Alduin and the dragons. Furthermore, at some point, the player meets Esbern, one of the last remaining Blades.

Setting - source
Hidden Text Below! (Click to show)

The fifth installment of The Elder Scrolls takes place in Skyrim, where peace is threatened by the looming threats of both civil war and the return of the dragons under the main antagonist, the great dragon Alduin (the Nordic equivalent of Akatosh).
Skyrim is the northernmost region of Tamriel and its geography consists of mountains, snowy tundras, pine forests, rural countrysides and arctic planes. Its architecture and atmosphere is very similar to the town of Bruma in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. Although it is roughly the same size as Oblivion's Cyrodiil (approximately 41 square kilometers in area or 25.4 miles), it is the least populated of all regions in Tamriel and features more lush forests and grassy areas than Cyrodiil. Although there are only five cities within the province, they are larger than the cities of Cyrodiil and are complemented with smaller townships dotted through the land with huge swathes of wilderness separating them all.

There are over 150 dungeons scattered across Skyrim, Fast-traveling is a returning feature, allowing the player to instantly travel to any marked location that has been previously visited.

New enemies to the series include Mountain Giants, Frost Trolls, Mammoths, Frost Spiders, Ice Wraiths, and Dragons. The game will feature non-hostile dragons but most seem purely bent on destruction. There will also be children present in the game for the first time since "Daggerfall", where there were a couple of quests in which they were encountered.

Collectors Edition

Quote:
Bethesda producer Todd Howard has already confirmed an "unlimited number of dragons" in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. At QuakeCon, Howard revealed the Collectors Edition for the title, which comes with a 12" statue of the dragon Alduin perched on a dragon wall. That's one more dragon than you get with the game alone -- or infinity plus one dragons -- making the CE a mathematical impossibility.

Other, less troubling bonuses include a 200-page "coffee table" artbook, and a making-of DVD. It'll be available on the game's November 11 release date at the only slightly less than infinite price of $149.99 US/ €149.99 EU/ £129.99 UK/ $199.99 Australian. And don't forget to pre-order, because if you're splashing out this much for Skyrim stuff, you're pretty much guaranteed to want that cloth map too.

on the contrary. TES has been getting worse. oblivion was nothing compared to morrowind. I worry about the quality of the story considering what we had for oblivion and fallout 3.

The first post has to be hate post.

Well, I will admit that Oblivion was not quite up to Morrowind standards. However, as we get more information, we will see that this game will be their comeback!
I hope they listen a bit more to Morrowind fans.

edit: fix the title please.

I hope that the game isn't going to be easy mode like how Oblivion and FO3 were. The level scaling killed the depth of both games for me. Make the game a challenge. I want there to be level 50 kings decked out in armor guarded by knights at level 1 that can 1 shot me.

Entering a cave and not knowing whether it was going to be rats or liches, dirt or Daedric Dai-Katanas was simply awesome in Morrowind.
