Storm surge is a powerful thing. It will change a coastline in a matter of minutes.

I just came in here to post that we are starting to get "flickers" in our power at the house now too. mad.gif

We've been getting flickering since 2 pm, its pretty nast outside. I'm so glad I bought a battery back-up for the folding rig. My main rig doesn't have one and has BSOD twice already but the dedi has been folding strong uninterrupted and the UPS is showing 8 events of power loss. If the power goes down for the count it will run the dedi half an hour at full load which is more then enough time to roll out the generator

Yeah, our power has been flickering as well. Hopefully it stays on through the storm, and we don't get too much flooding up in Fredneck.
Ok, power is back and I am folding away. Hopefully it remains that way.

[Edit]

Well, looks like I'm getting some seriously horrible WU's now. Hopefully it won't last.

Sweet. I'm back up and folding now too.

Actually I don't mind the 7808s compared to the 101xx ones I've been getting. 29K PPD in native linux @ 4.9ghz. Cool story Stanford.

This should be an interesting thread (and PPD boost) for GPU Folders.

Bonus points for GPUs

Yeah, I hope not. As nice as it would be things will get real ugly real quick for both SMP and bigadv. You should check out the discussion on [H] about it.

Hopefully this weekend I can get V7 working on my TC machine, although it is doing a decent 25k ppd right now using V6.34. Any benefit running BFS on a quad core? I started running it on my 8-core Xeon last night and it bumped up my PPD on that machine by around 3000 points for the same WU as before.

Hows the storm treating you guys now? All of my family over there has been without power since it started.

Its not too bad where I am, strong winds last night, and its been raining since Sunday, but the rain has let up quite a bit.

I assume there would be a benefit to running BFS. I was thinking about trying a different linux distro that uses it by default actually. I just wanted to get some ubuntu numbers in hfm again, but I think I'll just make the switch today.

We pretty much escaped without incident. At the house, we never lost power ... just flickering lights. The supermarket down the street didn't fair so well, it's power transformer overloaded and caught fire though. biggrin.gif

My brother, who lives about 7 miles away lost power about 6pm last night and it still isn't back on.

Work, which is about 8 miles from my house, lost power for awhile, but it was back up before 6am, so I came in early and started everything back up.

I tried upping my OC on my TC machine from 4.8GHz (which lasted me 7 days before I took it down ... previously 4.7GHz was my "stable" at 2 weeks of up time before upping to 4.8GHz) to 5.0GHz. That only lasted about 15 minutes before locking up. So I backed it down to 4.9GHz and that too lasted only about 15 minutes before locking up.

No reboot, just locked up Linux hard, so I had to power off and back up again. Maybe I'll just leave well enough alone for now and be happy with a 28% overclock. rolleyes.gif
