Because it's already in the GPU-E category. I personally like the idea of 780 Ti and 970 being brought into the nVidia category - over half of the nVidia category is already running 780's, and have been for some time.

EDIT: So naturally I'll be curious to see where all of this goes.

There's been talk of the 780 Ti, Titan, and Titan Blacks being dropped down to nVidia, hence why my comments.

There's only been two posts or so about it so far. Basically just a mention about how some team captains will be contacted soon about potential category changes, as well as other topics (a big one being how certain cards being brought into the fray should have a delay after release before being allowed into team competitions due to possible unfair aspects they may bring to the table).

Note that all of this is just unofficial comments I've read from some editors (nothing in PM's, just casual mentions in the folding section), and I wouldn't doubt it if after some discussion between the captains and editors we'll see either an official announcement or further discussion that involves all folders.

In other words, I'm essentially commenting on what currently should be considered rumours until any official word comes out. Myself, I'm unable to fold for at least another day due to a dead cooler and waiting on word from an ipr as to what they'll do for me, but the thought of 970's being potentially allowed into my category is of interest due to the fact (from rumours from one of the salespeople there I talk to semi-often) that my 780 Classy will be replaced with a 970 (although I haven't decided if I'll accept such if they do offer it to me. Don't really like the feel of a side-grade for gaming)

So yeah, why not allow 970 in NV slot, people with 780s are gonna whinge and moan but so did everyone else with 670s (myself included), but they allowed the 780 in regardless.

The GTX 680 was the top card in that category when you bought that GTX 670. The GTX 780 was added in July 2013? I could be wrong.
