Here's a test fitting of the diamond plate. Man- its gonna look good! I am now thinking that I should make a diamond plate cover fot the pedal panel as well, as it too will be getting foot-traffic, plus it will look super cool! biggrin.gif

dscn0304j.jpg

I had to remove the rear swivel castors and run their attaching bolts thru the diamond plate as the panhead bolts protruded slightly above the plywood floor of the base. This will also help hold down the diamond plate to the base.

I used 11 additional panhead bolts (along with the 8 from the rear wheels) to attach the diamond plate to the base. I also drilled out four holes for the seat/sub and 3 holes for wiring (one enlarged hole for the sub, and two holes (one in each back corner) for the power wires for the brakelights and speaker wire for the rear surround speakers) Heres a picture of the bottom now, with the wires removed-

dscn0306ou.jpg

Now that the diamond plate is attached, I will have to trim it as the rear of the base is 1 1/2" smaller than the front of the base, to allow for the overlap where the two sides connect. Depending on how easy it cuts, I will decide on wether or not to make a piece or two for the pedal panel.

I have a couple errands to run this morning, and I have to watch the Seahawks play this afternoon, but I plan on getting some more work done today- I'll keep the updates coming cheers.gif

Please feel free to leave comments/suggestions. I apprieciate the feedback wink.gif

I lugged the base outside and set it up on some sawhorses. Then I put down some tape and drew a couple of cut lines. I first attacked it with a 4" diamond blade, and it worked- kind of... Not easy. I tried my dremel type tool next and it was even worse mad.gif Next I tried my jigsaw with a metal blade. It worked great for about 2" then the blade was completely gummed up with aliminum and it would go no further. I have a metal cutting disk for the 4", but I cannot get the diamond blade off confused.gif it's stuck on there good and destroyed the wrench that came with the tool for removing the blade. I tried getting it off with a pair of channel-locks, but no love frown.gif So I continued to cut with the diamond blade. It's working- but slowly.

dscn0312z.jpg

Grinding is much easier though- I use a makita 7" grinder with an 80 grit stone to grind the plate flush where the sides attach.

dscn0313tp.jpg

dscn0314x.jpg

Not looking forward to cutting more with the jumpy, dangerous diamond blade, I did manage to find a metal blade for the skill-saw. Much better!
I start cutting the pieces to wrap the bottom of the base-

dscn0317p.jpg

Here are all the pieces cut-

dscn0319nr.jpg

I still have to notch the 4 side trim pieces to go around the side panels, but it's cold outside and I needed to take a break and warm up and eat a sandwich- rolleyes.gif

I laid out the cuts for the notches in the 4 trim pieces for the base. I used the traced line for some point of referance measurments and then used the sides to trace the shape. I had just enough metal blade left on the skill saw to get the job done smile.gif Talk about getting your moneys worth heh-

dscn0320de.jpg

Luckily for me, this 80 stone didn't explode and hit me in the face. This must've happened while grinding on the last piece, because it wasn't cracked when i looked at it after the third one. Needless to say, I threw it away- it was pretty much used up anyway.

dscn0322v.jpg

Now I'm off to get some bolts or screws from Home Desperate and then go watch the Hawks probably lose at Hooters. Thats it for today- until next time, you guys have a good one! drum.gif
