Crucial is Micron, they overclock decently if you pump the voltage (however considering the Crucial & Corsair kits probably do not have matched IC's, you shouldn't overvolt/overclock as it'd apply to both kits and the results may be different. For a start I'd try running 1600 9-9-9 with around 1.6-1.65V [no heatspreaders are fine at 1.65V], not further unless possible).
! no need for the face palm
i knew they wouldn't run at the higher speed, but the 2 crucial sticks are good overclockers. yeah i bought 2 for dual channel. if i can't reach high speed, i could just try tightening the timings a bit couldn't I?
£30 for a 4GB kit here in Britain in brilliant! especially for a proven overclocker like this set! the next best is about £45 for some low-end mushkin kit that i don't know much about, and that's 50% more cost.
surely the main benefit of higher speed RAM is for more overclocking headroom? i've read a lot of opinions and reviews saying that the difference between 1600Mhz and 1333Mhz is negligable (<1%) in day-to-day and gaming use (main uses of my PC), so in that case, the speed wouldn't matter too
i could get a decent CPU OC?
as for holding back the CPU OC, i would have thought if anything hold's back my OC, it'd probably be the motherboard
would it be best to test both kits individually and OC them and see what settings they like, then test both kits together and just use trial and error until i get acceptable settings?
if the crucial kit reaches 1600Mhz CL8 @1.65V (optimistic
) and the Dominator kit also reaches 1600Mhz CL8 @ 1.65V, how much of a hit would i take when using both kits together, or is that hard to tell?
thanks for the help
